    The mining magnate Thurzo family, who took charge in the mid 16th century, were responsible for a great deal of rebuilding work, although its present form was not finalized until 1611. It burned down again in 1800, after which the Pálffys occupied the castle. And then, after a period of dilapidation and WWII the castle became a national monument.

    This morning I found the reception lady to pay what I owed (4 euros), and then took off to Zilina, the first stop of the day. There I finally found a Slovakian cantina and had duck breast for 5 euros. I did a bit of shopping there, buying baby wipes to be prepared for a night of wild camping in the mountains, and took the road of Cadca.     We hope to find lodging near to the castle so we can visit on foot tomorrow. We first see the imposing 12th century edifice from a sweeping viaduct that takes traffic past the town.
