    ... Much worse.

After lunch in Cherokee, on the other side of the Smokies, we drove into North Carolina, our 12th state this trip. Late afternoon, we made it to Lulu's brother's house just outside Charlotte and then had dinner with him and his wife Lisa in Charlotte.

After dinner, we drove on for another half hour to Kannapolis.

Panic. Panic. Panic. I have GOT to get home. But flights are so expensive. It's Christmas! Last ...

As we were discussing out options, it made sense to do 2 nights in the heart of Nascar country, and do a solid 5 hour drive to Savannah on Friday morning. So as it plays out, we have all day tomorrow in Charlotte to visit race ...

... Lynn's home in the country. We toured her home and land, sat on the back porch watching hummingbirds and listening to hawks and frogs, had a delicious dinner with Southern Chicken Pie and cousin Sandy's recipe for cake in a mug, and just for visited for hours. A wonderful visit, a comfortable bed indoors, a peaceful ...

... the WORST high school football team ever. We scheduled the orphanage, Childrens' Home for homecoming every year so we could get ONE win. They only had one goal post at their field (you can look it up), so they played at West Rowan every year. Jim and I were the stars of the team, of course. That is how pathetic we were. Then, Jane's SECOND cousin, once removed, Diane and her husband, Tom, invited us for a wonderful meal ...
