After a drive of a few hours, we arrived at our motel in the small town of...Hurricane! Thankfully we didn't encounter any severe weather, and I thought of those who must have been affected by the flooding from Hurricane Joaquin. (There is also a place called Tornado somewhere in W. Virginia!)

We had a late dinner after checking into our motel. Again, I had a dinner of ...

... Fry. My name was legally changed to Brooks after my mother married my stepfather who raised me from 6 years of age. I was always in touch with my father, primarily through my grandmother who I adored, but I really didn’t know much about his father’s side of the family. After his death, and the marriage of my youngest daughter, I had some time on my hands and became interested in genealogy. My mother supplied a few facts and went with me ...

          ... 8211; shame we hadn’t arrived a little earlier!

Nephew Tim and Joe (the Airport Manager) were there to say hello as we shut down the engine after the 2 hr flight. We followed the normal routine to bed down the EZ and left our contact details at the FBO before the 30min drive through the surrounding countryside. We arrived at Tim and Tammy’s to look forward to a week enjoying their company and with their cat Mr ...

          Good to be Back

Pulled in around 2:30. Glad not to have another extended trip time anytime soon. We had a wonderful trip. Great friends to travel with, would definitely get the Special Ed Posse together again anytime, just not back to Alaska! Statistics are a bit sketchy, but by my feeble calculations, we did the following:

          Air Miles 5008
          Rail Miles 283
          Bus Miles 543
          Car Miles 1700
          Ship Miles 1240

OMG could it get any hotter on our first day here. When we went to the store the car indicated 99 but it was too hot to even be outside.

Our friend Tom, who lives in Winston-Salem, came by to visit and we went out to eat. The restaurant would be cooler than the motorhome since the air conditioner has a hard time keeping it ...
