We made it home safely. The -21 C temperature coming off the plane last night was a little bit of a shock to the system. We were delayed by the snow in Toronto but luckily the held our flight from Edmonton to Fort Mac for us. We look forward to seeing everyone again and sharing a few pictures with you. André & Gina

I have my passport and my credit card, let's go...

Alright, so after spending most of the night watching the Broncos get blown out, I am pretty much done packing. Follow along with our trip as Gina and I head out to the long lost continent of Madagascar. I'll try to keep the blog up to date as best as I can based on internet availability. The cab comes at 4:30am...time for bed. André

Still at work

Still at work in Fort McMurray, just counting down the days. The days are already getting noticeably shorter. The days of 24 daylight are over. The mornings are getting crisper. Fall is definitely on it's way. I think Chase has lost his mind up at Diavik. We're ready for a vacation!!

Getting ready and testing the blog

As we pack our bags, check our lists and get things in order it is only a week before we leave. This entry is to serve only as a test that this blog and the address book is working. We hope to be able to do some entries once we leave on our journey. Downloading pictures may be a bit hopeful but we will try!! The countdown is on L

Plans and Preparations

... Canada and hitting ever State, Province, and Territory and hopefully every National Park. We plan to either rent a car, have someone drive our car down to us (any volunteers?), greyhound it, or the age-old hitching a ride! The most interesting thing about this part of the journey will be seeing all our continent has to offer. I think it's a great way to conclude the trip - see all the world has to offer, and the come home to see that there's just as much beauty and ...

Eastern Europe Plans

... countries before the 23rd of December, but that's the joy of travel. I'll make it up as I go along. And now for the proposed itinerary: I will begin in Estonia and continue on to Latvia, Lithuania and Belarus. I plan to spend a couple weeks in the Ukraine before heading for Moldova, Romania and Bulgaria. Macedonia is next, followed by Albania, Montenegro, and Dubrovnik, with Bosnia-Herzegovina and Serbia rounding out the end of the trip. I ...

Prologue

... across the world, instilling in me an appreciation for other cultures and a hatred of unpacking when we got home. At the age of eight, I vowed that when I grew up, I would never travel again. By eleven, we were back in the states and the rate of travel had slowed to one or two trips a year, funded by the frequent flier miles my father continued to collect on business trips. At 13, I rode on a chicken bus through northern Thailand. At 16, I snorkeled in the warm ocean waters of ...

Blue Light Special

... starting 15 early everyday and banking this so they could get a full days pay on the early home day. This whole banking hours thing goes against our contract, so the electricians would have no part in this; we still left early, but only booked 7 1/2 hrs for the last day. Seems some pipefitters left on bad terms and filed a grievance asking for double time for all those 15 minutes. <br>Ofcourse, this banking thing was offered as a favour ...

The Big Lebowski Hitchhiking Birthday Fantasy

... at camp, 'cause I knew I needed first aid. No one was there and I didn't know where to go. So I went to bed, gravel filled cuts and all. They were some gooders. Nice deep slice on the left hand. the RN though I might have fallen on glass. Can't say. In the morning I went back to the front and found out where I could get my hands looked at. Not exactly a handy location. I brisk walk away in fact. The RN asked if I had a tetanus shot in the last 10 years ...

Mad Trapper

... to the ambiance by dressing in camouflage. Not like kinky camo, but like they could go hunting right after work camouflage. Oh yeah baby, we were living the dream. Oh and also, I was plugging mad money into to juke box. You see, this place offered two choices of entertainment: the music of the juke box, or no music at all. You may ask, can it get better than that. I'm here to tell you yes! After sucking back the brews, we purchased a case of beer a.k.a ...
