Mitchell, South Dakota, United States lstonehamDespite my 15 year old's objections, I had to see the world's only corn palace. Unfortunately, it was neither as corny nor as palatial as I had hoped. Also, we got lost in town, which, as my son pointed out, was a hard thing to do. We had a nice room though (although, IMO, a bit pricey for a rural spot).

Mitchell, South Dakota, United States pmf1153... we will keep trying. We set off to Mount Rushmore early and enjoyed the drive up to the memorial sight. It really is a very impressive sight, which we almost missed as we spotted two Mountain Goats by the roadside and we were so involved trying to photograph them that we almost missed our first view of the sculptures. We paid at the entrance kiosk to park the RV and Monty was very impressed that the cashier offered him a ...

First, we went to the Fossil Trail, a short walk with a boardwalk. Then, Bret and the kids crossed the street to Cascade Trail, which they liked because it didn't have a paved path. "Don't you want some water and sunscreen?" I yelled. No answer. I caught up with them and after 15 minutes into the hike, we returned to get water. Back in the RV, we looked at the trail map to decide where to go ...

We do this off of battery power which means the 12 volt lighting does not work. But anything gas does work. Heading west on the I-90 we finally got a little mileage back and got to Mitchell latter than I wanted. We camped at the city -owned Lake Mitchell Campground. This is the ...
