Historical Traveler Reviews of Best Western Mostyn Hotel London

Feel at home

The staff at this hotel shine. Sardia, at the front desk, is just one of the many extremely helpful and courteous personnel. The room was ample, quiet and well maintained daily. The bathroom tub and fixtures were great. The location is remarkable. For this price it is a standout!

Great hotel, I will come back for sure!!!

I've stayed 6 nights at the mostyn hotel in October 2004 with my friend, the hotel was very nice, the room was very cozy (not small).

It was so close to the oxford street (just about 1 minute of walking).

The service at the front desk was very good and also the maintenance workers (especially Ray who was very nice and friendly).

I didn't like the english breakfast so much, something was missing there and also the hall was too small for all the hotel guests.

London is the best city in the world!!!

Small rooms but great location - and don't forget Deya!

Stayed at Mostyn for 8 nights, in September of 2004.

The Mostyn Hotel has rooms on the old side, but recently remodeled and nicely lit common areas. If you're familiar with London, you will know about the rooms that are quite small, but that's just life over there. I also found that the phone lines had too much noise to allow any computer modem calls (Internet cafes are everywhere and cheaper anyway).

Front desk staff is helpful, although the bell folks seem to be preoccupied with their other plans and activities. I had a few issues with multiple reservations, etc., and the front desk was always helpful. BestWestern sometimes has amazing Internet rates.

There is a pretty good breakfast buffet, and for the location right near Oxford Street and Selfridge's (food and department store), it is hard to beat. Selfridge's has plenty of sandwiches and ready-made foodstuffs that are reasonable, just 100 feet away or so.

The Marble Arch metro (tube) stop is also very close (2 minutes' walk). This arch is one of the entrances to Hyde Park, which makes for great walking if the weather permits.

The main attraction, though, is Deya, the new Indian restaurant located just through the doors of the Mostyn. It is from the same people that own Zaika, one of the few Indian restaurants with a Michelin star. Everything is great, especially the vegetarian taster menu. This is world-class food, in my opinion better than Red Fort (top-rated Indian in London) and still relatively reasonable. Be careful, it's London, so that still means $30 for lunch. The restaurant is still new, so they are still trying hard, and it is hard to beat for a truly stellar, creative dining experience.

The street running behind the Mostyn, Wigmore Street, has a Wagamama restaurant a few blocks down (towards Bond Street), an excellent IKEA-looking place serving tasty, bargain noodles.

Book carefully at the Mostyn

We stayed at the Mostyn for two nights this month (July 2004). We felt that the room was too small for comfort as a double, but that it would be OK as a single. The room that we were assigned faced a street with substantial traffic. Rooms towards the rear of the hotel looked to be both larger and quieter. The air conditioning in our room was marginal at best.

On the positive side the room rate was very moderate for a hotel located one block from the Oxford Street shopping district, and the included breakfast was ample.

The hotel's regular restaurant is not operating, but the restaurant across the street at the Thistle Marble Arch has a very good early-bird carvery buffet for about 13 pounds.

If you book at the Mostyn try to get a room away from the street.

Brilliant Hotel

from rottogirl
After two night in a perfectly awful hotel the Mostyn was like a dream! We had a triple room which they gave us at a highly discounted rate (we walked in off the street in search of a decent hotel) and could not have been happier. This hotel has recently been refurbished so everthing is new and clean. Our room was very large as was the bathroom which had an enormous bath and one of the best showers I've ever had in a hotel. We requested a room away from the street and were given one facing into the back of a police station. The view wasn't great but it really couldn't have been any quiter. Request a rear facing room if possible because we were told by another guest that their front facing room was quite noisy. The staff at the front desk were always very helpful and friendly. The continental breakfast was very good-top quality leg ham, cheese, cereal, yoghurt, fresh fruit, juice, tea/coffee, croissants etc. The hotel is in a great location between two tube stations on Oxford Street and on the bus route for Regents Park and London Zoo. Hyde Park and Marble Arch are literally down the road as is the hub for the open top red London Bus tours. Great for shopping, great for cheap tourist buys and great for convenience. Definitely stay here!!!

GREAT HOTEL!!

Stayed in this hotel in February '04, and must admit, it's a fantastic hotel. Rooms are just about the right size, very cozy and warm, with all the necessary needs...phone, hairdryer, tv, central heating, and tea/coffee facilities. The room and also bathroom were kept spotless conditions!! Breakfast was great too. The staff were very friendly and very helpful too. Last but not least, the hotel is positioned in a fantastic location.

Dissapointment

from A TripAdvisor Member
Tiny room, no bath (shower only - which was not clearly noted in the info sheet...), coffee maker was out of order and no memo pad was readily available...

Excelent Room Rate in the Heart of Oxford Street

from A TripAdvisor Member
one can not get a good rate for a room in this area of London. Frankly I think, for doing your shopping at Oxford street, one can not get a better bargain.

Hate the place

from A TripAdvisor Member
The rooms are small and very inconvenient. The service of the front desk manager is as bad as one can imagin. The maintenance of the hotel is terrible. I was injured by a large, heavy wood panel which all of a sudden came off the wall in the bath room.
