As Christmas time approaches, we were invited to take the kids and judge a gingerbread competition at The Friends of The Frelinghuysen Arboretum.
OK, "invited" might be a strong word but we thought the kids would have a good time looking at the gingerbread houses as well and might develop a critical eye.
Please, who ...
... of people in the travel industry, but her story was of particular interest to me inasmuch as it was published at roughly the time I was stumbling into the business. A magazine had flown me to New York to produce a feel-good feature on a group of Russian classical musicians who'd fled the chaos of Moscow and formed a successful orchestra in the shadow of the Statue of Liberty. While I was in New York, the magazine asked me to drop by the newly opened Rose Museum inside Carnegie Hall, as ...
New York City, New York, United States happysheep... time by now, and as part of my leadership remit I have to source and find eateries within our budget. But with the deposing of my leadership goes the deposing of all such constrictures. Troops moan that they are hungry, I say that I am no longer leader and I don't know either where we're going for tea or what we're having. So H just goes in the first place we come across. An up market cafe, all fresh smoothies and fresh coffee. I try to let it all wash over me, but am struggling ...
New York, United States jacontheroad... Bryant's Park where we were going to have lunch. No. We went into the sandwich shop and when we were ready to leave the rain was coming down, in what I thought at the time was a heavy fashion. So we sat in and had lunch and decided now was the weather for heading to Macy's (famous department store Fiona was set on seeing). So off we went with our raincoats on (including Mum's which I stole from under the stairs cupboard!) and got pretty much soaked. This was not too bad at this point ...
New York City, New York, United States rtcolling... our order to a bottle of wine that we sipped slowly through the show, the sips interrupted by lots of laughing out loud as we worked our way through 5-6 brilliant stand up's. Laugher certainly is the best medicine not that we needed any but we did come out beaming from ear to ear we were in such good moods we decided to walk back the hotel which was all the way on the opposite end of the island. The walk took the better part of an hour which as it worked out was less ...
New York City, New York, United States gandthoneymoon... Germany and headed back from Hong Kong via San Francisco so actually made it all the way around the world in less then 30 days...nice. Now it is almost a challenge to see just how many times I can actually do it. Though right now all I want to do is sleep for 30 days.... Update - 02/29/08 - Well I haven't been asleep for 30 days straight as planned but it sure has been interesting. Interesting in the sarcastic work sense. So, in other words nothing to write about. But it ...
New York City, New York, United States bnbfsuOn Saturday we visited George Washington's Headquarters in Morristown, which was used during one of the early winters in the Revolutionary War. We saw where he and Martha slept! And where he planned, etc. We then drove five miles to Jockey Hollow where his 10,000 troops had camped for the winter.
Morristown, New Jersey, United States davekeiserWe've had a more relaxed time doing our own thing more since all the wedding stuff is over. We went for that walk with around the local area to Fort Tyron park way up near Washington Heights. It was very pretty, with views overlooking the East river and George Washington Bridge. There was a wedding going on, and it was all sunny and generally very pleasant indeed. I'm still getting into tree's, so enjoyed checked out the great American Elms, plus some big Red ...
New York, New York, United States gypsyfeet... When the young man seated us I nearly cried! He sat us at "the table"!! Just call me Kate Beckinsale and my boyfriend John Cusack. We were at the very table they sat at during the movie. And it wasn't like I was the only one who knew about this, (this table). Camera flashes were going off in our direction. They were all so jealous!! We ate huge amounts of delicious ice cream, hot fudge & brownies, I think it was called "Forbidden Broadway Sundae" and rightfully so. It ...
New York City, New York, United States turicchi... and weren't up to getting the 10.30 train, but I was itching to go. Got into NY Penn station at 11.30 - right at Madison Sq Garden - and wandered up 7th avenue to Central Park...stopping in to a few shops and a diner along the way. Had a brief walk through the south end of the Park and got some pics of Horse drawn carriages, statues, and Columbus square fountain. Then I headed back down Broadway to Times Square and took some more pics of the Hershey's shop and the DOW shares ...
