As Christmas time approaches, we were invited to take the kids and judge a gingerbread competition at The Friends of The Frelinghuysen Arboretum.

OK, "invited" might be a strong word but we thought the kids would have a good time looking at the gingerbread houses as well and might develop a critical eye.

... Bryant's Park where we were going to have lunch. No. We went into the sandwich shop and when we were ready to leave the rain was coming down, in what I thought at the time was a heavy fashion. So we sat in and had lunch and decided now was the weather for heading to Macy's (famous department store Fiona was set on seeing). ... Germany and headed back from Hong Kong via San Francisco so actually made it all the way around the world in less then 30 days...nice. On Saturday we visited George Washington's Headquarters in Morristown, which was used during one of the early winters in the Revolutionary War. We saw where he and Martha slept! And where he planned, etc. We then drove five miles to Jockey Hollow where his 10,000 troops had camped for the winter.

We've had a more relaxed time doing our own thing more since all the wedding stuff is over. We went for that walk with around the local area to Fort Tyron park way up near Washington Heights. It was very pretty, with views overlooking the East river and George Washington Bridge. There was a wedding going on, and it was all sunny and generally very pleasant indeed. ... When the young man seated us I nearly cried! He sat us at "the table"!! Just call me Kate Beckinsale and my boyfriend John Cusack. We were at the very table they sat at during the movie. ... and weren't up to getting the 10.30 train, but I was itching to go. Got into NY Penn station at 11.30 - right at Madison Sq Garden - and wandered up 7th avenue to Central Park...stopping in to a few shops and a diner along the way. Had a brief walk through the south end of the Park and got some pics of Horse drawn carriages, statues, and Columbus square fountain. Then I headed back down Broadway to Times Square and took some more pics of the Hershey's shop and the DOW shares ...
