... wreck of his ship was not discovered until the 1800s.
It is so interesting to walk around these old towns and we spent one afternoon finding our way through the old section of the town, past le Pont Vieux, past the houses built with that mix of brick and wood and into little hidden squares through arched alleys and cobbled stone roads. Those cobbled stones were quite ******* my feet. The soles of my shoes didn't feel thick enough to cope with ...
Bordeaux and Blaye
... but it was still old and charming nevertheless.
Most shops close in Blaye between 12pm and 6pm so it took us afew days to get used to this chilled out, lazy town - but thats exactly what we wanted anyway. The tables were laid out along a veranda next to a swimming pool, we were greeted warmly and invited ...
A BBQ followed by the X Factor!
... because although both Oliver and I are pyromaniacs we are, ironically, useless at getting BBQs going! But get it going we did and had a lovely meal of sausages and beef kebabs, salad and spuds (supervised, of course, by Sybelle the gorgeous black & white English Setter) - I did let her have some.
We finished the day with the X Factor, which was interrupted by a bat. He was quickly expelled and the kids were in bed by 10! (Early night!)
