So we left behind St Lawrence on the Saturday morning and headed for Airlie, we had heard lots of good things about Airlie Beach so we were very much excited! We pulled into a petrol station just as we got to Mackay to fill up, we figured the fuel would be cheaper here than once we headed off the main road towards to coast. It was a boiling hot day and we could already feel the sand between our feet and the sea spray cooling our faces down.... However apparently Wilson had other ideas, ...

camp as once we stopped and Michelle made us lunch 3 caravans turned
      up for the night.
After a short walk down to the dry
river we headed for Mackay arriving around 4 in the afternoon. We set
up the van and then met “Bas” (Chris and Shells dog) as well as

and then made us a delicious BBQ dinner. ...

We had two group leaders, Muzza Moo and Dusty who I think was a native of Fraser Island or ...

... them up to the yards instead of just walking them, as Rob had suggested it a couple of days ago. All was going well until the two dogs came racing out and frightened the 2 cows and the calf and sent them running into the long grass beside the track. The calf disappeared about 100 meters into the paddock. The cows weren't paying any attention to us as there was so much feed around and they wouldn't budge. Hannah came to help and brought ...

After a lovely Mass with many friendly chatty people ( we must look like tourists or seriously out-of-place because people always talk to us after church!) we went to the Mackay Botanical Gardens. We thought it would be a nice spot for lunch and ended up walking and scootering around for hours. Simply gorgeous day. Perfect temperature. Sorry freezing cold friends!
