    Friendly receptionist, great location and good rooms. Breakfast at the diner next door was also pretty good

    We left Amarillo, Texas this morning heading to Calumet, Oklahoma on I-40 outside of Oklahoma City. As we headed east on I-40 in the Panhandle Plains of Texas, the land was very flat and we finally saw big Texan cattle ranches. East of Amarillo we could see huge ponds in the low-lying areas of many ranches from the previous Texas storms. We took a quick stop onto Historic 66 in the town of McLean to take a photo of an historic Phillips 66 gas station.

    ... airport and museum, which unfortunately was closed. Stafford was the first astronaut to fly a lunar module in orbit of the moon during the Apollo 10 mission. The entrance to the airport has an F-4 Phantom Jet standing guard. As I pulled into my motel in Clinton under cloudless skies the temperature rose to the highest seen on the trip so far at 91F at nearly 8pm.     ... map by none other than American Idol winner and 2013 Monday Night Football star Carrie Underwood. We were moving too fast down I40 to capture the greeting sign that said exactly that…of course I didn't know that little tidbit.


    Saw another sign on i40 that read "don't follow construction vehicles ". So what do you do if you find yourself behind one…food for thought. LOL

    ... on Route 66, but when we found it, it wasn't as driveable as the guide had said and it had not been looked after like other truss bridges in other states. We couldn't get to the old road on the other side as access from the side was fenced-off and Harry didn't get out of the car for his required 'comfort break' as there was a big half-eaten smelly fish on the ground near his side of the car.
