It's time for Vegas
I'm now in Las Vegas, it's even hotter than Phoenix, I didn't think it was possible. My flight here from Phoenix was very short; only 45mins. It was the first flight so far where I've sat next to some cool people who actually spoke about stuff. Again I had the usual bumpy turbulence as the plane descended, the ladies next to me said it's …
Rain & Hail in the Desert
After the natural grandeur and drama of Death Valley, Las Vegas seems at first impression, tawdry and fake. Jake stops out in the suburbs to stock up on incredibly cheap booze and we then head for the Best Western Mardi Gras on Paradise. Another huge room with two beds, so we can spread out for two nights. Jake has organised an Asian fusion …
Voyage de Paris a Las Vegas
Dimanche 12 Juin, voyage Las Vegas (Nevada)

Nice clean room, good shower, good hairdryer, good location, near to the strip. No breakfast included, but has a pool. Taxi the hotel booked ripped us off by taking us the long way to the strip, but that's not their fault.

Historical Traveler Reviews BEST WESTERN Mardi Gras Hotel & Casino Las Vegas
The worst B.W.
I've stayed in many Best Western hotels in the western US. I thought you usually know what to expect. This was a complete surprise of the worst kind. This was the scuzzyiest BW I've ever seen.I've seen better section 8 housing than this place. At least they have cleanliness and pride. This place had neither. I was afraid of using the bathroom for fear of cathching something. I parked on the front for fear of my car getting broken into. I left after one sleepless night.
Decent hotel, good value for money!
I have just been reading other reviews for the Best Western Mardi Gras, and I want to scream. If you want a 4* themed, strip casino, book a 4* themed casino on the strip! It amazes me how many people want to spend pennies and expect to get luxury! I have stayed at this hotel once. We were on a tight budget and this hotel did us proud. Our room was basic but clean. The staff were great. There is a free shuttle bus which takes you to the strip every hour, also for a small tip the driver will take you anywhere. My family stayed there recently and the driver took them to Fremont Street to save them getting a taxi! One gripe was that the reception/ restaurant area was smoky....but this is Vegas it is smoky everywhere!
GROSS!!!
We pulled in, and knew we made a big mistake. The rooms are old, dirty, stained (toilet had pee stains on the seat). They provide coffee makers that are gross, a little fridge but no micro. The hair dryer didn't work, the drains in both the bathroom and kitchenette gave sewage odors (our room smelled of rotten eggs). The complimentary pastries in the lounge could not be taken up to the rooms to enjoy ("nothing can leave this room".). Maid bangs on the door at 8:00am, "Do you want your room cleaned today?!", in a very ghetto style. We will never stay at a Best Western again.
A little disappointing
I stayed here in May 2003 and the price was certainly right but I'd go elsewhere next time. Consider this only if you must stay under $70/night. Frommers LV guidebook gave me the impression that "Staying here is like having your own little Las Vegas apartment." That's really overstating things. I guess if you're a family trying to avoid using two hotel rooms then this is slightly better than a standard room. We had a kitchenette that was really no use to us since it was just a frig and extra sink. Service a bit lackluster and location was poor. I was hoping that being a little "off-strip" meant a little traquility and maybe a homier atmosphere. It didn't.
Not the quintessential Las Vegas experience
The Best Western Mardi Gras Inn offers a couple of noteworthy amenities, but it is lacking the appeal of the mega-resorts on the strip. The good things about it was the roominess of our room, complete with kitchenette, and also the airport shuttle. The continental breakfast was anticipated to be another perk, but it turned out to be rather unpleasant in actuality because patrons were forbidden to take food out of the dining area and were regularly being yelled at to hurry and leave as soon as possible to make way for more guests. The location is not far from the strip but not very appealing in itself with little in the way of views. The motel showed its age, and the restaurant was quite smoky.
Beware!
DO NOT RESERVE A ROOM HERE! Talk about a night from hell? We reserved TWO rooms, got confirmation numbers. Got to the hotel, NO ROOMS AVAILABLE! WHAT? We've got CONFIRMATIONS! We even showed the paper to them. They absolutely had NO rooms! Folks, we've got a 2 yr old little girl, and my wife is preg w/twins and they STILL REFUSED to help us! To make matters worse, THREE other couples were there at the same time and they too had resv and no rooms for them either! Want more? We were to stay there a week later, we cancelled of course, and during the conv. the lady said 'what? we had rooms that night available'. Talk about wanting to jump through a phone and strangle someone!! Want more? WE GOT CHARGED FOR THE ROOMS! Boy,am I pissed! AVOID THIS PLACE AT ALL COSTS!!!!! I'm going to have a nice LONG conversation with Best Western about these clowns.
This place is the pitts!! Rude staff!!
This place is old and run down if all you want is a cheap, smoky, retro dive with a bad attitude, you got it!! They made us wait an hour and 15 minutes to be picked up at the airport after saying they'd be there in 1/2 hour. Checking back they said the guy should be there, he wasn't. When he FINALLY did arrive he had an attitude worse than a mad dog and playing screeching loud music in the van, oh joy! Our rooms were not ready when we arrived and we were told to come back at 1pm, so we did. They were still not ready and this time they told us check in wasn't until 3pm so come back then. Granted they're not right by ANYTHING and cabs back and forth were getting pricey. You can “WAIT” for their free shuttle to the backside of Bally’s if you have the patience and love terrible music. We came back at 3:30pm and our rooms were STILL NOT READY. The staff was very unaccommodating with their attitude, no apologies; it was tuff if you don’t like it go somewhere else. We did, the LUXOR was very accommodating and gave us great rates after we told them of our ALL DAY horrific experience. Kudos to the LUXOR we will always stay there on future trips!! BW cancelled our reservations because “I” had a bad attitude. Ha, whatever!!
Basic(ally good)
Stayed here twice. The hotel is a 20 minute walk from the strip, offering basic but clean accommodation. Definitely budget.
The staff are friendly; the facilites (casino, catering etc.) are virtually non-existent.
Conclusion, if you can stay on the Strip for the same money, stay on the Strip. If you are looking for a cheap place to stay where you are using Vegas to explore the South Western USA, it offers good parking and you are not in the middle of the traffic jams on the Strip.
Super service
spend our vacation in the mardi gras inn
10 days in nov. 2002
the whole crew was very friendly and efficient,
the room very clean and tidy every day.
Best Western Mardi Gras
I stayed at this hotel wilist getting married in Las Vegas. Big mistake, it's good value for money but I wish I had spent more money and booked a better hotel on the strip. The hotel was ok but not brilliant. The reception staff were not too nice, we were excited about getting married and kept going to the reception to see if anyone had faxed us or sent cards, they just kept saying nothing here - no smiles at all. We also thought that since we were getting married they may say congratulations etc. nothing not even a smile. The rooms themselves hadn't been decorated in quite a while. The carpet was very dirty and I expressed this as I didn't want to get my wedding dress dirty - they offered to get someone to clean it. If this was done we didn't notice. The TV was from about 1970 or 1960, the reception was terrible and the colour was bad. We felt quite dirty in this room and could not wait until we moved to the strip on our second week. If you are going to stay at this hotel ask for a room as high as possible as we had people above us who liked to get up during the night to have a shower which kept us awake every night.
