Magical Lakes

A travel blog entry by jimcarson on Jan 30, 2015

A place like Maple Ridge is not usually the first place that people think of when they visit the greater Vancouver area, but it an incredible place if you love to experience wilderness, horse trails and beautiful lakes.
They have several in the area and each offers the best time you can imagine. Even in winter.

... the pilot came on and announced "people on the left side of the plane (we were on the right) may have seen a bright flash on the wing during take off. That was a lightning strike but nothing to worry about, it does not damage the plane and we can carry on to Toronto." Okay? He said in 20 years of flying he had been hit about 10 times.

... scheduled to land till 9.45pm, and we’ll be at least an hour later than this.

We had a reasonably smooth flight, aided by a spare seat between us. Can’t make up the lost time, but the crew contacts Maui and makes sure the hire car places will still be open till 11PM, as distinct from their 10PM advertised time. We descend into Maui about 10.50pm, hoping for a quick throughput, as it isn’t an International flight. We seem to be very close to the ...
