Travel Blogs by Travelers Who Stayed at the Best Western Majestic City Center Santiago

Hello Santiago

Santiago is a large, extremely hot city I found out. In the days, temperatures are around the mid to late 30´s, and the only time it lessens is at five in the morning, for an hour, where you need to put your blankets on your bed, to kick them off an hour later. My backpacker lifestyle had begun. Its very different from any other part of my trip, which has been either centered around one location, or travelling with a group using hotels. Here, you meet new people every day, of every nationalit...

Santiago for the 3rd time!!

This was our 3rd visit to the city, we had visited it as the first port of call when we arrived into the continent over a month ago, then we passed through it half way through our time on the continent, and now we had 2 days here to at least get out of the airport. The city itself is not on the usual list of places to visit, but its close proximity to the Andes and the Pacific coast is what brings tourists here. From the time you get out into the city, you realise how modern and Western the c...

Santiago

We flew into Santiago from Punta Arenas and took the transfer bus from the airport to Los Heroes Metro station and then walked to the hotel. It was quite a hot afternoon and more of a walk than it looked on the map with bag!

The Majestic had had mixed reviews on Trip Advisor but it was relatively cheap and very handy for the Plaza De Armas, just a 10 minute walk. We were also very close to Santa Ana metro. We didn't try the Indian restuarant but hear it is very good. The breakfast was ...

In and out of Santiago

Some how when I booked these flights, I didn't think it would feel like we were jumping on a plane every day, but that's literally what we've been doing and tomorrow will be no exception, with a 9:25am flight toRapa Nui (Easter Island). There has been one good side to this, with the plane food being decent, we haven't actually had to spend much on food ourselves ... I know, small consolation! In all this plane talk I forgot to mention, we're now in Santiago, Chile. Our arrival at the airport ...

Hostels and Protests

I´ve been in Santiago 5 days now and it´s been great so far! My first impressions weren´t so good because I stayed at a Best Western in downtown Santiago the first night. Unlike a lot of Latin American cities, the downtown here is not so nice and people keep telling me not to go there. In downtown there are beautiful old immense Spanish buildings intermingled with construction sites...not so pretty. But then I moved to a hostel near the University and the area is really beautiful, with parks ...

A Change in Chile

... Neal, who went to business school and traveled in Russia with Christian, a Colombian by birth who now was working for BCG in Santiago. Christian offered to meet at a lively local restaurant/watering hole in Los Condores, and our night of wine, food and great conversation (music, movies, cultures, public policy, business, etc) began at 9pm and ended around 2am with a much appreciated ride home from Paola (thanks, again, for dinner, the great company and ...

Moving into the New Apartment!

... table, some stuff for the kitchen, etc. Later in the day, we got our power back! Yay! That night we went to the last night of a film festival at the University of Chile here... we saw what ended up being a pretty hilariously bad movie in French with Spanish subtitles... it was good practice having to read the subtitles fast enough to understand what was going on... all in all, it was a good time!

First week in Santiago

Thought I would write a quick update to let everyone know I`m still alive.. Arrived in Santiago after a 10 hour sleepless flight on Sunday.. I`ve been here for about 1 week. Santiago is a pretty amazing place.. when I got out of the airport the first thing I noticed was the mountains surrounding the City.. it was a clear day so I could see the snow-capped Andes (which is ...

Hitting rock bottom in Santiago

... was just a case of LTTS, Long Term Travellers Syndrome brought on by being on the road for a lengthily period of time. The visit to Santiago was marred with three restless nights of the "where are we's" that you might recall plagued us, or rather me on many previous occasions. The feeling of waking every night not having a clue where you are and wondering around a strange room looking for something familiar is quite unsettling at the ...

bye bye Santiago city..
