It was a relatively short drive from Brantome to La Rochelle, with the majority of the drive on very good secondary roads through pretty forests and farm land. So although we started late after the tour of the abbey we still made it to our hotel by two o'clock. To be frank I didn't know a great deal about La Rochelle beyond that it was on the seaside and that it had some towers protecting the old port.
