Boy is this falter a waste land!! Nothing but oil pump jacks and junkyards in this entire area! What a difference in scenery from the past. 5 days!!
But we are close to the airport for our 7:15am flight to IAH then DCA so it works. We killed enough time driving around looking at stupid stuff that it landed us in Odessa at 5pm.
Our next task was to find a place to eat dinner. Odessa is a food desert....all food chains which is something I try ...
... we had to climb through Guadalupe Mountains National Park. As we went up and up, we started seeing this white stuff on the ground. As we neared the apex, the scenery became quite spectacular. Not sure, but it looked like frozen fog, which was quite thick on the bushes, grass, and everything. Temperatures were around 20 degrees, so it ain't melting any time soon (see pix below). ... lunch consisting of peanut butter sandwiches. It was now that i discovered i had left our water back in the car. Bad planning by me. Luckily i had packed an umbrella and my massive knife.
After lunch we wandered around the appropriately named "Big Room". at 4000 feet long and 612 feet wide it is the third largest chamber in North America and seventh largest in the world. We spent two hours here alone. Finally it was time to ride the elevator back up to the surface, ...

I attempted to avoid the middle of the night bathroom run by refusing to drink any liquids after 5pm...but much to my dismay my body woke me up at 2am to make the long sub-zero walk to the restrooms. If we ever take this kind of a trip again I am investing in some sort of girl friendly portable pee holder...maybe.
... 8230;many of them. I was just waiting for some critter to jump out at her as she stuck her nose into them. The hikes were very easy, level ground, well groomed, back, neck and knees survived fine.
Well until the next day….
Now, off to Alamogorda, NM, White Sands National Monument. This was truly “INCREDIBLE”. Again in the middle of nowhere, we came upon these white banks of sand as we entered the White Sands ...
