... big cave rooms even though I have been to many caves in Europe. The reason being gas and not water which was the catalyzer in the formation process.
The cave is home to 250.000 to 800.000 bats. Nobody really knows how many they are. But I did not see them because they spend the winter in Mexico.
As conclusion, whoever wants to visit Carlsbad Caverns you definitely need to do the get you way down the natural way. It is stunning!

    A few rather strange folk are in our car, plus there's only one restroom. Showers down stairs so that was a no no for me, as I don't do stairs especially in a moving rocking, jolting train!

    Dinner we opted to have at 7pm and steak was delish. A Canadian club with ginger ale helped restore the mood!

    ... and lots of desert animals. It was great exercise and perfect cloudy weather to walk outside for 1 1 1/2 miles. After having a fantastic BBQ dinner at local joint we went back to Carlsbad Cavern to witness "bat flight" at dusk. Yet again another wondrous experience to see 200,000 bats fly out of their cave to load up on their dinner and to get food for babies just hanging around in cave for their daily food ...
