When travelling it is important to try and understand the culture of the country you are visiting. This means getting away from the major tourist towns and spending some time in a regular suburban area, a town or a small village. A very good friend let us housesit for her and explore Davison, Michigan. Chain Restaurants, Walmart, McDonalds ...

We got up at 2:30 in the morning to start our EPIC road trip of a lifetime! Then we hit the road at 3:15 and it was smooth sailing to Chicago. Annalena had no problem sleeping for the majority of the drive, and the rest of the time she was happy and excited to be in the car. It was a great start to our trip.

And where there were no farms, there was dense foliage like that found in New England…pine and spruce and maple in various shades of green broken by spears of white birch trunks, and all of this adorned by a hem of yellow buttercups and goldenrod growing along the roadside.

The road took us through the Algonquin Park, a huge plot ...

... good day out and I'm sure that there was so much we didn't manage to see (and not bad for $24 even though they tried to charge me $5 to park!!!).

After tea we had a few games of Uno (Evie won as she won 2 of the 3 games) which reminded me a lot of when I was growing up as we used to spend time playing games in the evening before bed. All in all a good time was had by all today as my time in Detroit (Rochester Hills) sadly comes to its end :-(
