... in the room' hitherto but not this time so if you are offended by stories of legal drug taking then you might want to tune back in next paragraph: This was definitely the swankiest coffee shop I had ever been in. In the foyer there were glass electric barriers one in one out and the guy on the door scanned my passport before letting me through. Not at all like Amsterdam where they just have a laminated menu on the bar, but I kinda liked it ...
Maastricht, Limburg, Netherlands asphalt_pilgrim... have only the food case on the top of the panniers which would then be easier to access for (say) cooking rice in the middle of the day. I reasoned that this could be improved further by putting the food in a box on the front if possible - I have seen loads of those over here: a simple L shaped rack that fits to the front of the bike and you can load anything you want on. This was on my goal list for the day.
Speaking of my goal list (if you skipped the ...
During our stay in Spa we had the most scary, horrible, unpleasant experience ever in a restaurant.
The restaurant to avoid is "Le Bouchon Gourmand", the owner does not hesitate to insult customers, lock them into the restaurant if there is a dispute on the bill, and claim more money than is due.

... I was just wondering what kinds of problems I was going to have and how many times I was going to look stupid with my German and how ****** off I was gonna be when I got back tonight. I was scared. But, surprisingly and much to my relief, everything worked out just splendidly!
I hope tomorrow will be just as successful as today.
PS - I don't even have to go to Oktoberfest-this weekend there is a music festival in Aachen!!!
Hi all,
Had a pretty lazy Sunday. I know that tomorrow is going to be very busy so I just wanted to relax today. Had apple strudel ala mode for lunch, haha. Then we had a turkish dish for dinner. It was chicken wings and sliced potatoes on a pan lightly smothered in tomato sauce with lots of spices and garlic. It was pretty good! I just dont like the skin or fat on chicken, and I dont like ...
... They told us we were at the highest point in Belgium, which was somewhere in the Nature Park.
We decided to call it a day for the roadbook, and make a detour to just get into Luxembourg for fuel, and to make sure we 'did' all the countries.
Looking back that detour cost us some time, but did mean we visited Luxembourg, even if it was too dark to see it.
... beautiful, and you can see lots of pictures of it on my gallery:

We saw lots of old churches from the 1500s and a castle/fort, which is in the pictures.
Also yesterday I signed the lease for my new apartment! Nil came with me and basically did all of the talking, and I am very grateful for that, because it would have been difficult to do by myself, signing ...
... and show us parts of the German and Belgian countryside that I’m sure no Canadian has seen since WWII. At one point in Belgium we saw a woman driving in the passing lane on the wrong side of the Autobahn. On-coming cars were flashing like crazy and she finally realized she was not where she was supposed to be and then negotiated a three point turn, right in from of on-coming traffic of course.
Spa, The Ardennes, Belgium kochwebb... to all that Dutch colonial imperialism in the then Dutch East Indies a few centuries ago, spotting Indonesian restuarants in the Netherlands was about as difficult as spotting druggies at a rave party. And if this particular restuarant is indicative of the others then finding a superb meal is no more difficult – even though the Dutch menu didn’t give us too many hints on exactly what we were choosing.
Maastricht, Limburg, Netherlands troywilkinson... The rise in the ground as we approached the high spot in the camber of the road was the biggest hill we encountered....but we made it to the top. This was a great experience - cycling with friends half a world away on a sunny morning, stopping every now and again for a photo opportunity and just enjoying the company. Book! ("cool", for those without auto text phones). But we have to move on. We leave shortly after 10:00am ...
