... shouldn't have taken the first agent's word for it. Seemed to be ships sailing at all hours - must surely have been one with space on it overnight? Definitely the only way to do this route. However, we get by: but I wouldn't recommend Ventourist line: cheap, for sure; but tacky -very, very tacky!Another night in an anonymous port.

Bari, Apulia, Italy marcdolav... depends as much on whether it was in 15 increments twice a day on the tube, on whether your friend (over)hyped it up, whether it's part of a class or something you picked up on a whim, whether it's hot out or work is kicking your ass, whether you're embarassed to be seen holding the book in question, whether you know the writer or the subject matter.

Hornby's approach was to embrace all that contextual ...
Bari, Puglia, Italy david_chungWe were finally able to rent a car in Salerno and head out into the Basilicata region of Italy. The Basilicata is the least touristed and least populated region of Italy. It is a beautiful area with rugged mountains and several national parks.

We had heard about an interesting town there called Matera. Everything we read about it kept calling it “mysterious” and “haunting”. Apparently, it is one of the oldest towns in the world with continuous ...
Matera, Basilicata, Italy johnandrich... Dan got a map of Pompeii and we saw like 1/16 of the ruin! I was dissapointed we couldn't see more but Enzo did say that it would take 2 days to see all of the ruin. The bus ride from Pompeii to Bari was a few hours, we stop for a snack/lunch/toilet break after a few hours. Dan and I had a calzone and a drink, we bought some onion pretzels, pepsi and paprika italian pringles for munchies on the ferry.
We made the ferry on time ...
Bari, Puglia, Italy jasndan... are built into the rock face, often with just discernible faded frescoes painted onto the walls. There really is a biblical aspect to the landscape, and it comes as no surprise that the town was used as the setting for Mel Gibson’s ‘The Passion of the Christ’. ‘Simply Perfect’, he is reported to have said when first seeing Matera, and it isn’t hard to see why.
Matera, Basilicata, Italy louise123... Italian, it was little surprise to find that this was once part of ancient Magna Graecia; in fact you are more likely to stumble upon Greek temples than you are Roman ruins. Known in Italy as a land of myth and fable, this little region was clearly full of surprises.

Whenever I think back to the first day in Basilicata, images of mountains, beautiful scenery and sunny skies fill my thoughts - a lovely start to the holiday!
Bari, Puglia, Italy louise123... looked at the old buildings and almost got run over by the minister's motorcade! I took some pictures that i'll post soon. Friday after class we went to Pino's house! It was really beautiful. The houses here are like apartments but they have multiple floors. We had champagne and really good pastries and pino hit me in the head with a champagne cork! He told me it was good luck.... Last Saturday Sam, Christie, Dustin and I took a train to Bari. Bari reminds me of a mini manhattan ...
Bari, Puglia, Italy pandajax365... found a park to take a nice snooze and blow about 2 hours. We finally found a grocery store too that was open. We tried quite a few internet cafes but did not have any luck with them being open. Seriously, NOTHING was open. Yes, we did have gelato too before getting on the next ferry. Guess what? We found a wireless connection there. Who knew!? Again, we don't want to pass judgement on Italy yet...but those who have to go to Bari in August...BRING A GOOD BOOK! : < )
Bari, Puglia, Italy laytonandjana(Jim) The kids have been begging for the chance to play football, so today we pumped up the soccer ball and walked over to a piazza in the old town where we saw kids playing yesterday. Our kids started kicking the ball around. We soon attracted two Italian kids about Katharine's age, who eagerly joined in. One was clearly the stronger player of the two. Whenever he or anyone else made a good ...
Tarina jatkuu seuraavassa jaksossa, mielenkiintoisine kaanteineen.. =P
