What a dump!!
This place is a dump. There was mold growing in the shower. The bathroom exhaust fan was hanging from a wire. The air conditioning filter hadn't been cleaned in a long time, it was fuzzy with black dirt. The pool was cloudy, the snack shack was closed, the front desk offered a sign for change and then (after a 10 minute wait) wouldn't give any. The outside grounds are not maintained. The phone was unplugged from the wall (which we realized about 1/2 way through our stay). The blankets on the beds were disgusting. We found an old water bottle and someone else's sock under the beds when checking for our items. The room smelled, the steps were deplorable, no elevator and to top it off there was dog waste or vomit in the parking lot that we walked through on arrival. Avoid this place at any cost! King's Dominion is only slightly better. I am on my way to the Best Western website now to file a complaint!
The hotel was great! Just a short walk to the park (though you can ride the shuttle). It had a Denny's and uno"s(pizza place open 5pm untill 12pm) at hotel. the average price about $8 dollars per person for breakfast and $10 dollars at dinner. UNO's was $10 dollars a 12inch pizza.they have a burger king across the road but denny's offers more for the money. The rooms were about average and the bathrooms small but there is so much to do that you only need to sleep there.they offer a pool, tennis, shuffle board, mini golf, ping pong, game room and lounge. The hotel as if its own retreat, and at night it seems to have a magical quality.Great view of park.though the service was not perfect,LOCATION,LOCATION,LOCATION! loved it and will stay again!!
The Denny's was the best part
The room was very clean. I didn't have any of the problems that I had read from the reviews. The pool was about 5' deep which helped out the kids. I thought the pool was too small for the amount of people that use it. The staff were absolutely great. My friend had a problem with the iron and within minutes they were at the door to fix it. The shuttle bus didn't run enough but you are definately within walking distance of the park. The Denny's was perfect which is located inside. I think it was the best part besides the park. I think the stay was fine and you should be satisfied. I thought the staff really made the stay alot nicer especially in the Denny's. Thanks alot!
Clean and Convienant
You can't beat the location (it is located at the end of the Kings Dominion parking lot. The shuttle comes around every 15 or 20 minutes. But unless you are disabled, it is just as easy and just as quick to walk.
The room was very clean and appeared to be recenty refurbished. In fact, I would say the room cleaner and in better shape than my last few stays at Embassy Suites and Sheraton hotels. It was small, but about what you would expect from a typical. The Denny's, located on site, had suprisingly good food. The whole family ate every bite of breakfast. This included my very picky 6 year old.
If you plan on visiting the Kings Dominion, I would recommend staying at the Best Western. Just don't expect the Ritz and you should enjoy your stay.
Close to Kings Dominion; Inexpensive
Kings Quarters is the perfect place to stay if you are going to Kings Dominion Park. You can walk to the park in just a few minutes, but a shuttle bus transports back & forth to the park all day. The room was ok. The bathroom is tiny. We were lucky to have a groundfloor room, so no stairs to deal with. The pool was nice and they also have an outdoor playground. You can check out free play equipment at the front desk (tennis racquets, balls, ping pong, etc). The staff was very friendly. My room was clean. The price for the room was excellent.
Nto very accomodating
I booked our stay via internet for a non-smoking room. As soon as we arrived in our room it was obvoius that it was a smoking room. I immeditately contacted the front desk and was told that it was basically my problem, as she had no control over what was booked via the internet. She did not even try to find a solution. So, because the room could not be cancelled less then 48 hours in advance, we were stuck in a smelly room that I couldn't wait to get out of. I will never stay there again. It is a shame because our visit to the park was nice.
The park shouldn't be affiliated with this hotel!
Rather stay in an outhouse
we stayed at this hotel 7 years ago it was dumpy then obviously it hasnt changed. Our room when you flushed the toilet it came out from underneath. What a pit this place was after 1 night we checked out and rented a cabin. CAMPING WAS 1000 TIMES CLEANER!
What a DUMP!
We stayed at the Best Western Kings Quarters on August 16th and 17th 2003. We were very disappointed. I had requested a room close to the pool and when we arrived we were given a room in the 500's -- which is not near the pool. Our room was not very clean -- the bathroom ceiling and walls were all discolored from previous leaks. The bathroom door was only hanging on one hinge! The blankets looked so old and dirty that my entire family slept on top of the comforters with our own pillowcases and blankets! We washed all our blankets and pillowcases in the laundry facility before we left the hotel -- I did not trust putting them in our car without a good cleaning in scolding hot water and soap! We will NEVER visit this place again -- do yourself a favor and stay somewhere else. We did enjoy Kings Dominion -- but will stay somewhere else next time!
Best Western Kings Quaters below average
Pkool was cloudy and a bit dirty. Iwas given a room key and walked in the room and found another family in there. I was given another room but on the top floor after I had requested the ground floor. There are no elevators in this place. There was hair on the bathroom floor and holes in one of our blankets. Bathrooms are tiny, but there is a seperate sink area outside the bathroom. The great things about this place are the on site Denney's, which was great food and good prices. The water pressure in the shower was very good. The location is great. It was a 5 minute walk to Kings Dominion. I loved Kings Dominion. It was very clean and the lines were way shorter than Busch Gardens. You don't have to get in your car for the water park it is connected by a walkway.
OK, but could be better
The King's Quarters Best Western was better than I expected. Friends had said it was a little dumpy. The rooms were pretty clean, which is the most important thing. It definately could be improved upon considering how close to King's Dominion it is. The outdoor areas leading to the rooms should be renovated to look more appealing (new stairs or even an elevator would be great!) Be aware you have to carry your luggage up a flight of outdoor stairs. The cleaning staff should do a better job of keeping the stairways and balconies clean. After the cleaning people clean the rooms, they leave the dirty laundry in piles here and there for someone else to pick up, I guess. At least that's how it was when we visited, 7/03. It would make the whole feeling of the place change if they at least updated the stairways/balconies and their cleaning practices. The pool was okay but the water was cloudy and the food shack was not open (whould have been nice to have a drink by the pool, since it was very hot)!

From Gettysburg to Richmond on a Civil War Day. Peter is an avid reader of Civil War history and his interest has rubbed of on all of us. On to Sharpsburg/Antietam Creek Battlefield. We visited the sunken road and Burnside's Bridge. A very peaceful, much more contained area than Gettysburg and yet the more casualties were suffered here in one day than any other military day with some 23,000 ...

Our campground tonight has a train track running alongside its boundary. An active track, the trains actually shake the ground under us as they pass by.

... coaster with loops and corkscrews. After that, it was Intimidator 305. A 300-foot drop at speeds up to 90 mph followed by a tight 270° turn made for a very intense experience. So much so, I think I nearly blacked out for a few seconds from the g-force of the turn at 90 mph. Next, we did two more launch coasters, Flight of Fear and Volcano Blast Coaster. ... every screening line was open (also something I had never seen before in Richmond). They did not make every one of us go through that ultra-microwave-we-can-see-the-molecule s-in-your-bones-Superman-x-ray-machine, so it only took about 20 minutes to get through. The line behind me, however, seemed to stretch just as far as it had when I got in it. Insane.

Idiocies curtesy of the Bush administration aside, the flight to Newark was uneventful; we took off five minutes late and landed "22 minutes early." (Not counting the half-hour padding they build into all airline itineraries to account for being late all the time.) Once we landed, however, some dimwitted woman in the back of the plane decided that she did not have to follow instructions, so she got out of her seat while ...
