... br> It was two months to the day since I'd arrived in America, I had been immersed in the enthusiasm and dedication of brothers and sisters right across the country, so much so that I'll do a further entry just to touch on some of the high points that haven't been covered to date.
I've also realised that I didn't cover the visit Ashley and I made to Brooklyn, so I'll have to come back and add that in. But most likely I'll do that from home.
We are on the road again...no surprises there. Currently sitting in a cute Mexican Restaurant having Octopus/Shrimp tostadas. The octopus was a surprise..but, not bad at all. We are in Los Banos. This is the heart of agricultural America...Almost all of the people we have seen in the last several hours are Hispanic...and very very nice folks. We are headed to Gilroy, the Garlic Capital of the World! Well...Our luck has held ...
... and soon we found that the road was snow covered and starting to feel treacherous. We kept going at a snails pace and eventually we had joined a convoy of other refugees all tiptoeing through the storm. The conditions worsened and cars started sliding off the road and into ditches and into each other. This was no joke as from time to time sliding off the road would actually mean sliding over a precipice into the valley below
... ahead. The scenery contrasts to the stark nothingness of I-5. There are golden rolling hills splashed with olive green tinges. Patches of wild flowers were in bloom, an occasional farmstead broke up the vast seemingly endless countryside, it turned out to be a very peaceful drive.
Upon arriving at Mercey HS, we were greeted by a row of Ironwood trees and a few scrub oak. There were ...
... However, we walked to the base of Lower Yosemite Falls and were seriously impressed. Even better than our waterfall at home during a summer storm! And take a few steps back and you can see the Upper Yosemite Falls as well.
We also checked out the Happy Isles, where there is another interpretive centre and a couple of islands midstream you can walk to. The sun was shining, a perfect spot to ...
