... 5pm departure to about 9am arrival. Drinks with dinner were almost required [not really, but the flight attendant did ask everyone if they would like wine with their meals]. The flight meals also included what was to be the beginning of an endless stream of tea with milk and sugar available. Mmmm! Unable to sleep on the plane, we arrived at the international terminal in Heathrow.
Not much to report today. We drove from Austin to Beaumont, Texas in just under four hours with only a ten-minute stop for tea and restrooms. On the two-hour tour, we learned a lot about the historical roots of New Orleans and Louisiana. Lots of writers have lived in the French Quarter, including Tennessee Williams and William Faulkner. ... lots of basic tables but all full with the locals. Our waitress Brittney (briitneee) was very nice but really into trying to figure out the puzzles on the Lone Star beer tops. We decided not to try the alligator tenders (maybe another time!) and settled for crab cake for Peter & grilled shrimp for me, all very good especially the baked potato. There was some strange stuff for sale in jars there that we passed on, don't want to try everything ...

Of course that would be straight driving and since we're older, we knew we would have to stop a couple of times, making ETA closer to 6pm. We decided to go for it.
