Yuma is recognized by the Guinness Book of World Records as the sunniest place on earth, with 339 bright days a year and less than 3 inches of rainfall annually. Normal highs range from 70 F (21 C) in January, to 107 F (42 C) in July. December is the coldest month, with a normal high of 69 F. While we were in Yuma, the temperatures were in the 80's F (27 C) and 90's (32 C) - quite a bit above normal for this time of year. Ahhhh. ...

The warmth in Yuma was more than welcome. Yuma is obviously a very popular destination for snowbirds because it was difficult to see anything other than Canadian license plates. As soon as we finished setting up in our new home, Westwind RV park, the fellow Canadians were knocking on the door to find out exactly where we were from. In our 15,000 kms we hadn't seen as many Alberta plates as did just on our block of the park.

... big Saguaro cactus with 47 arms is no more so we couldn't see it. Word is that ATV'ers drove all around it so much it ruined its roots and the lady at the Chamber of Commerce suggested the town didn't do enough to protect it. The sign that would've directed visitors to it resides in the small museum we visited.

... if you are in the area. We finally got out of Yuma, and made it to an area that had a sign for a camp ground. We have not camped in one of those, so we somehow ended up in an RV camp and rented a space. Such sweet people. 2 second there and a man brought us an incredible pizza. A lady said she thought they saw a tent there before, so we camped on the gravel pad. This morning the caretaker said, we usually put them down in the dirt. ...
