Well, the journey began on a down note. I got held late at work, then got stuck at AAA waiting for a temporary card. Quick sidebar - I was behind a guy at AAA who was adding his kid to his policy. The lady asks for his son's name. The guy says it's for his daughter, Sara. I look at the kid next to him and, from behind, I'm not sure. But from the …
Over the last two days we have been generously looked after by our wonderful American friends, John and Penelope. They live on 50+ acres in Shrewsbury, Vermont, a lovely rural community about five hours from New York City.
We boarded the train in NYC on Tuesday afternoon and arrived in Rutland (about 15 km from Shrewsbury) at 8:30 pm with John and Penelope waiting to pick us up. While here we have been staying at Smith Maple Crest Farm B&B, a quaint ...

... keeps them young! Their hospitality is incredible; they host exchange students for the university and are active with warmshowers. So active, in fact, that my friends from the Honey Hub in North Dakota (see July 23), Kory and MJ, stayed with them early in their trip and wrote nothing but amazing things, so naturally I had to check it out. We had a great meal and dessert, and I will sleep soundly yet again. Burlington VT > Middlebury VT, 38 miles, day ...
Yesterday we took a drive to Lake Placid, site of the 1980 Olympics (also 1932). It was really crowded with people so it must be the place to get away from it all. We just had lunch and then drove around a bit. The Adirondacks is a beautiful area that is heavily forested and has lots of lakes. The mountains are not as high as we are used to. Today we just relaxed a bit and explored the area around our campground.
Tomorrow we are off to Vermont.
