I capped off this last evening with another great dinner at Palo Verde and opted for the prime rib special which was delicious. Then a final stop at the Discovery Lounge to say hi to Randy(who is a great bartender by the way) and a couple of cactus lemonades before heading back to room. It'll be bedtime soon and sadly tomorrow I will be heading back home to Illinois. But this won't be my only time out here. Far from it... :)
... afternoon, we met John at 'Big Surf', one of Phoenix's waterparks. Thank goodness he was there...John's willingness not only to show us around but actually test the rides alongside the boys (I include Jill and me here) was surely beyond the call of duty. ... splendid home in Scottsdale. The boys, though, quickly forgot all about the slightly fractious (mainly due to an unusually testy driver) journey, the frequent stops for gallons of water and Gatorade, the impressive views (especially the Joshua trees), and the extraordinary heat when they jumped into J&S's lovely swimming pool. ... sickness, you will see what I mean. No one else seems to be affected by this in the family - Lauren says its because I am a "ginger" (one with red hair so I am "unique" - there is that word again). I grabbed a small bag of chips from the cupboard, and noticed how they had expanded to a bubble. This explains why I feel the way I do - my insides are about to explode like this bag!
Off to bed, and to the Grand Canyon tomorrow.
... a warm bed is great! And I was delighted to be back in potwash - I actually really enjoy being in the kitchen when it's quiet and there's no pressure. I was quite alarmed whilst listening to the radio whilst doing the breakfast shift to find that shots had been fired the previous night in King's Meadows. As a lone female traveller I am always aware of my own vulnerability and hearing news like that always worries me a bit. ...
