... decided to go back to the waterfront and take a cable car to the top of the road. We had a long wait but the sunshine and the impressive air show rehearsal helped make is pass pleasantly. The cable cars are brilliant, a real slice of history. We got off at Lombard Street and walked down the incredible road, watching cars edge slowly around its tight corners and cyclists performing wheelies down it for the onlookers-all great fun! We ...

... explored a few lakes in a few ski resort towns and went to mono (pronounced like kimono) which is an ancient lake east of Yosemite. It is a giant salty lake and at one end there are natural springs that mix with the salt water and form some sort of calcite deposits creating giant columns called tufa (I think I'm getting better with the science explanations). So we ran as fast as we could to get on board. And she continued shouting at us telling us where to sit or stand for the duration of the trip! It was a pretty short trip, but I'd do it again! We stopped for lunch to give us energy for this afternoon's plan-cycling the Golden Gate Bridge. We'd picked up a few ...

... overall uninspiring: we had seen it all before and knew what was coming, which ruined the effect. After this, we meandered around the shops and such and found our way to a Chinese place to get some food, after which Jake went to the gym whilst I sat outside, eating apple pieces and updating this blog :) it takes me so long to do, sometimes I write what we have done throughout the day to reduce the time doing ...

... collecting our audio tour (thankfully we weren't required to don the Alcatraz blues!), we headed up to the main part of the cellhouse. The audio tour actually turned out to be one of the best i've had - the journey round the prison was narrated by 4 guards that worked at Alcatraz, as well as some of the prisoners that were kept on the island. I think that it definitely gave it a different perspective to hear the stories from the people actually there - it ...
