... from the 15th century and before. The stained glass, which you can see, was destroyed during WWII and remade decades later by a German artist. Beneath the sanctuary there is a series of tombs where, supposedly, the family of Kaiser Konrads II (10th century) is buried.
When we left the cathedral, we walked 150 yards to a museum of Roman presence in Germany. As you can see, I took a few photos in the courtyard of the museum, but Tracy and I did not follow our ...
Well...this time honestly I didn´t have time to make travel list or structure my backpack. After finishing my PhD graduation there was time onyl to celebrations and party (since the last months I rarely had much time).
Heidelberg is ...
Without an official job offer, I took advantage of my free time and joined Jon at his conference in Heidelberg. As it turns out, the official job offer was coming, but that comes later . . . In the mean time, I got to explore while Jon had to sit and listen. Lucky me!
We've become big fans of the day passes for trains and busses. For one, you can travel around and cut out a bit of walking. But really, it's ...
... to my connection to Dieburg. Luckily for me, this leg of the journey was short and sweet through the German countryside.
All the trees are in full autumn color and the rolling hills are freckled with cottages and small villages. I was impressed at the number of roofs with solar panels. Also loved the charm of the ride.
Arriving in Dieburg i found a cab to my Hotel in nearby Munster.
... ourselves a little parking ticket for forgetting to put money in the meter. Luckily we have no idea how to pay it and well we "lost the ticket" so oops!
We got a nice little hotel in Frankenthal which was a little over budget but luckily had a kitchenette in it so it saved us money on food. That night we dined on stir fry and Chris made a great bacon and eggs breakfast in the morning. Worth it!
Then it was off to see my Mum in Mainz! Yay!

... to be for 2 nights. And let me take a moment to say how HAPPY I am that we're only staying 2 nights- our grocery-store-cum-hostel parking lot apparently shares space with a newly opened thumpin' nightclub. Which closes at 7am. So color me a bit tired today. (on the bright side, we apparently found ONE Heidelberg nightspot. Just didn't want it under my bedroom window)
So Robb Alvey is a bad influence ...
So, it was a sluggish start this morning. Not due to any residual alcohol issues but more to a lack of sleep. The hotel had no air con, so we left the windows open to cool down. Unforutnantly things kept going by, noisy rain storm and the rubbish collector truck etc kept waking me up. On top of the ****** pillow there wasn't a great night sleep had. Dan and I were late getting our bags down, so we just carried them ourselves, I got a spot on the bus before heading ...
Ludwigshafen, Rhineland-Palatinate, Germany jasndan... Amsterdam I am looking at the people heading to work on their push bikes. This is for the number one mode of transport here in Holland. Also, I must mention the houseboats that people live on that line the canals here. It really is an amazing place. We have now left Holland behind and are driving through Germany. Again we have to pay to pee here. €0.50. You get a ticket, here at our first stop and you get a refund, or ...
Ludwigshafen, Rhineland-Palatinate, Germany tblingAll Blacks play again this Saturday so decided I'd see if I could get close to Zurich to watch it with Niv. Looked like about 125kms from Freyburg to Lake Bodensee (Lake Konstantz to the Swiss). I wasn't sure about the best route to get to the lake but the reception girl in the camping ground was enthusiatic and said she does it all the time, so I thought it can't be too bad. There were no real cycle paths per se for ...
