Longest Train Ride Ever

... moving as people still tried to locate their seats.  A woman and her daughter came to our seats and said they were her's.  The French boy moved across the aisle and I was forced to go down a few seats.  I looked back and invited him to sit in the open seat next to me.  He came over.  I spoke to him in French and explained my situation.  The ticket collector walked towards us.  My palms got clammy.  By time the man reached us, I'd worked out my speech for ...

Lovely Lake Como

... good for what you pay!! And awesome for a backpacker!!
Went for drinks at Frank's Bar which Patrick who owns the hotel recommended. Turned out to be a pretty trendy cocktail joint
where you pay for your drink at 1 place then get it at another. 10 Euro for a beverage no matter what you had so naturally I ordered a long island ice tea!!!

Milan - excellent seafood paella... not much else

... a cool little wine bar/tobacco shop/lottery agent to have an aperitif and got to hear the waitress singing along to the radio in broken English with lots of made up words.
Had an AMAZING seafood paella at Osteria del Lazzaretto as well as the biggest piece of bruschetta I've had in my life! They also had half a litre of house wine for 4 Euro! Score!

Lake Como- worth the drive across Italy

... down in a square. The tour guide told the story of this event which was in fact played out around Como with the bodies being hung upside down in the nearby city of Milan.

As with everything these days I was able to retrieve the picture from the internet and have included it to reinforce the adage that violence begets violence - and on a smaller scale even the young love in Romeo and Juliet is destroyed by family conflict ...

Lake Como!

... When we got to the upper sect of the city, we were able to see for miles around. There are tiny little towns and villages literally every which way, all with red brick rooftops on the tiny little houses, they all look so peaceful and welcoming from afar. The day was a bit hazy, and it took us a few minutes to realize that there was a gigantic mountain range laying across the horizon almost all the way across. I believe the highest peak was Mount Titalus ...

Milano ...

After Istanbul and Rome... even Venice looked dull .. so what do you say about Milan!

Though we did go to see the famous Leonardo Da Vince's Last Supper. For the nerds likes me, let me tell you that the painting is not on a canvas but on the wall of the church (don't remember the name of the church) ... the experience was Wow... it almost felt that you were having dinner with Jesus and his group .. its costs about 25Euro per person ...

... degrees. But hey, it was worth it for the awesome views. The rest of today was spent exploring the town, drinking coffee, and watching calcio (soccer) with the locals at a bar. In Italy all of the shops are closed Sunday so we couldn't do any shopping. Looks like our run of good weather might be over. It will be 12-13 degrees all week with possible showers! John P.S. - I'll leave the photos for a better computer, this one sucks!

... 1120. This church, though smaller than the Duomo, was impressive in its own way. After many battles and sieges brought upon the city in the medieval period most of the original church was destroyed. Luckily part of the original 1120 church survived and is very much in tact. When walking through the church the differences between the sections added since the 16th century and the original structure were very apparent. Down the road from ...

Anyone seen George Clooney?

... off in italian for about five minutes leaving us with no practical information whatsoever. After about an hour of wandering around we finally found it bus and went to Como. Once in Como we did the most Italian thing we could, went to McDonalds and listened to My Humps by the Black Eyed Peas. After that bit of culture we went and walked around the lake and then took a tram up to Bramante at the top of a mountain. It had an amazing view and not much else except ...
