Wrong, very wrong.
Stories soon appeared on various Irish fans fora about how Gelsenkirchen is a dull place with nothing to do. "Scaremongering and sour grapes", I thought. Gelsenkirchen could not be all that bad if it was a World Cup host city and a venue for a Champions League Final, could it?
... too many Euro coins is a more common problem (one I now have), given I only bought one thing all day I had nothing of the sort. Fortunately someone made change for me and I was told to get a ticket at a machine that was found to be broken. Eventually I sat back down and handed another attendant the coins, but this was not the start I was looking for. Hopefully my public transportation skills improve as the trip goes on...as well as my interactions with Germans! ;-)
