    Up early due to heat and to some extent the jet lag. Breakfast at the hostel and then a walk around town. Gus and I stumbled on a group of men betting on which cup a pea was under. Looked pretty simple at first glance and we guessed correctly each go until it came to placing some dollars on the game.     Just a short walk away is the huge Porta Macedonia, a big Arc de Triomphe type gate that cost €4.4m to build and commemorates the struggle for Macedonian independence. This opens up the the pedestrianised central area with the huge "Warrior on a Horse" (and quite obviously Alexander the Great) statue that symbolises the project.

    ... countries, but this one is truly a citadel and it's huge. It's on top of a huge hill right next to the real (old) citadel in town. That sends a strong message, huh?

    ... took us to the entrance of the gondola heading to the highest point around Skopje. Not a Freebee, but for 3$ of course we went up, only to wait 30 minutes on the top for some unexplained reason. Cheers governor was not the most successful lacking alcohol, yet a group of Israelis led by a Macedonian Jew entertained me and Alexander for the duration of the wait.

    I had a really nice day in Skopje. It was raining first thing this morning, but I didn't let that deter me. I left Pansion Bianco and went to their sister hotel in the city center to have breakfast. It was probably the most complete breakfast I’ve had in a month.
