I got off the bus at the wrong stop but it ended up being closer to the town centre. Kumanovo is the second city but it just feels like a small town in the countryside.

The people were really helpful in giving directions. I ended up bumping into the cousin of one of the coordinators and so he took me and phoned people and made sure I was ok. It turns out that I was the second person going to the conference who had asked ...
Kumanovo, Kumanovo, Macedonia anaearthrowlSkopje must be the poorest and ugliest capital in Europe, but it does have a claim to the fame: Mother Teresa was born here, for whom the city erected a 2.5 m statue. As usual, it also has its share of 1 castle; several old churches and old mosques. I covered most of them in a few hours, but found the market place in the Turkish Square the most interesting. It's almost like a bazaar in the Middle East. My CS host, Hans, is an Austrian working for Organization for Security and ...
Skopje, Macedonia chan_hc... nicked some maps from a higher budget place. I tried the AMG café first and ended up being the proud consumer of yet another bottle of Skopsko. Bollocks. It's like they have complete market saturation. By this point I was getting bored, and I never thought I'd say that when it came to drinking beer, so I decided I'd try one more place before retiring to bed. I chose a drab little café just around the corner on the other side of the hotel. It quickly ...

Kosova,Makedonya,Arnavutluk,Karadag,Hýrvatistan,Bosna Hersek, Macedonia nazlica... just looking, we headed to Suzana's work so Angela could see her aunt. There, she even tried to sell me some perfume, she is a *******e to bargain with! We met up with Sashe, who took us home. -Just a side note: Somebody wrote me to ask about what kind of cars they drove and if people walk or ride bikes more than they do in Goshen. Well, even though there are lots of people walking around, you don't see many bicycles. Motorcycles yes, small ones and although it seems ...
Skopje, Macedonia brandilinasue... I shot my photos today with a more widescreen perspective in mind to give an idea of what stuff looks like. Hope everyone enjoys. No good food stories to report yet. Im about to go eat beef muscle or something scary sounding. Possibly another update tomorrow. Gonna be up at that village for the next 7 days so might have less and less to talk about as we go.
Tanusha, Macedonia raistlin22384... at the hostel i met some cool guys one austrailian and some mixture of travellers who were picking up waifs and strays. we started a drinking game kings cup which led to me getting very drunk and needing the toilet a greast deal. we went out and walked ages to find this mediocre bar playing a live band. me na done of the rag tag bunch of travellers were doing our best to encourage them with the chants of "your average" and "i wouldnt pay to ...
Skopje, Macedonia barber.timothy... there before sunset. As we walked, we noticed that everyone with trash dropped it as they walked along, wherever they happened to be (after two days, we have the impression that littering Macedonia's national pasttime). Trash lies everywhere, and we can't imagine why. Apart from the smog in Skopje, this is a beautiful country. We did learn that under the Jugoslav government, litering was not permitted. Some have said that litering now is a reaction to that, but it ...
Skopje, Macedonia fatduck... and national identity is just so different here compared to , say, Finland. Many Macedonians seem to have fear for the intependency of Kosovo/Kosova claiming that it might lead to Great-Albania. Who knows but not very likely. I have to read more about the Albanians in Macedonia, Albania and Kosovo. it is so interesting. My hostess in Ljubljana, (after the exchange) lovely German Anne asked why in some places people can live pretty nicely with different ethnic groups ...
Struga, Macedonia mariafinlandia... soon... My primary aim of this trip was to visit the rebel side of this war,and on my first morning I spied a face that I recognised from the Tetovo spring offensive 3 months earli**.His name was Hans,a Dutch photograph**.He was,as always, draped in expensive photographic equipment, including 2 cam**as with long lenses, and a safari hat.It transpired that he had arrived in Macedonia only the day before, and was intending to reach the rebel enclave in the ...
