The Land of the Beautiful

So.. We arrived in Sweden and we had no place booked to stay that night, We walked around Stockholm, Swedens capital for abour and hour and a half looking for a reasonably priced hotel or hostle to sleep in, and ovbiously it was kind of hard to find. We stumbled into a couple and the prices were to high, or they did not have enough room for 6 people. After about 4 places we came upon a hotel sign off one of the main streets and proceeded to go in. We had to beg for the lady's at the front des...

The capital of Scandinavia!!

... Nobel museum which was housed in the old town part of Stockholm, which is on a separate island. It wasn't that large of a museum, but it had a lot of documentaries with people that had lived lives going against dictatorships, standing out against fascist regimes, that sort of thing. And I won't lie, I definitely shed a tear or two!
My host was really ...

On the road home.

... I don't know why he thought that he could travel internationally without a passport, but he did miss his flight.

I nervously boarded the TINY plane that I was to be taking to Winnipeg, and was lucky enough to have a man next to me who could deal with my nervousness of being on the small plane. I short flight later, we landed in Winnipeg and two hours after that was back home in Brandon. After another 24+ hour day, I was finally home.

I had an amazing ...

Stockholm

... it was a drizzly kind of a day.. and freezing cold. After a while Jon had to bugger off to do his sound check, so Danny and I decided to make our way back to the hotel and prepare ourselves for the upcoming gig. We did this by drinking a 1.125 L bottle of Irish Whiskey we had picked up cheap when we left Tallinn, (We had been warned that you had to sell a kidney to be able to afford to buy drinks out in Sweden), then dressed warmly and staggered off to the train station. In our ...

The Night Cruise for the Invasion of Stockholm

... on the night cruise to Stockholm, we finally have arrived in Stockholm. This is an old city that consists of a series of islands that are linked together. It is a very beautiful city, but it has been raining a lot here. Today was the first absolutely beautiful day and it was our first actual free day of the trip...so needless to say it has been awesome. We went to the Nobel museum and ...

Archipelagoes and Ancient Ships

... The ship was called the Vasa and was built in 1628 as one of four boats commissioned by King Gustav Adolf of Sweden. It sank moments after it departed on its maiden voyage due to lack of ballast. A heavy wind managed to tip her over far enough that she took on water through her gun ports and she sank with a loss of 30 - 50 lives out of about 450 on board. She was under water for 333 years before she was refloated and ...

1st Day in Sweden

... Vasteras (Voosteros). Sixty miles west of Stockholm. Beautiful small town, cobble stone streets around the town square. Bicycles everywhere. We shopped in the open market and ate at a hamburger joint and learned how to buy a parking tag. Although it was too late, we got a 300 (Kroners) ticket or roughly a $43 ticket-Bummer. That ruined the mood a little bit. We headed out on the road again towards Oslo. Other notation, Herb and Daniel ...

Castles and Viking Ships

... Lots of people would come up to me on the street and start talking Norwegian to me, but I could only respond in English. Too bad it's so expensive, or I would have liked to have stayed longer to see more of it, especially some of the ski slopes :) I still plan to do the Hurtigruten voyage some day, to go up above the Arctic Circle into the land of the Midnight Sun to the northermost point in Europe. But I'll save that for another adventure...

Sailing Stockholm's summery shores

... extra cash ever ensures an on-time flight, so after midnight that Friday evening I arrived at a now familiar Stockholm Centralen and wandered down to the nearby waterfront. A boat would be around here somewhere - I just had to find it in the darkness... Good to his word, Olof was waiting in his speedboat in the canal adjacent to the iconic Stockholm Town Hall ...

Sweet Swedish Hospitality!

... games. Later an announcement was made in Swedish which after all the boys were cheering and very excited. I asked Chris to translate and he told me that in five minutes there was going to be a swimsuit competition. Now, I hate to stereotype, but most Swedish women are beautiful, I think even the men seem to be what girls would call handsome. If you like tall, fit, and gorgeous women you would be in paradise (and if you like blonds you will ...
