Convenience and good service - just too hot.

This hotel is so convenient to the train station, you won't need a taxi - the station entrance is on the other side of the road on the corner. And yet for such a busy area, the hotel was wonderfully quiet at night. Wonderful, friendly staff. Clean but basic accommodation. Modern, updated bathrooms. Only issue is the central heating is turned up too high. I had to sleep with the window open, even though the nights were below zero. This was a common occurrence everywhere in Europe.

Arrived on Monday morning the hotel was quite warm as it was a beautiful day. They were renovating the rooms but I think I got one that hadn't been done yet. Very clean and well presented if a little tired.

I believe on reflection that this particular morning in Geneva was the coldest morning of the entire trip. I walked around for quite a while before I realised it - I went into a bank seeking some advice on my missing credit card situation, and found it difficult to speak. My mouth was almost frozen and I was quite slow as I tried to form my words, …

I reluctantly left Nice this morning by train to Geneva. Even though Nice station was quite close, I booked a taxi as I had extra luggage to carry.

The appearance of the passing countryside quite surprised me, at least during the earlier part of the journey. It was very dry and bare, and some parts were very industrial. It was easy to …

... of eight from there to the hotel in their minivan.

The trams are great: clean, cheap, and all electric. The city of Geneva (from what I could see) was really clean too, with recycling bins everywhere there's a rubbish bin. The water here even tastes like New Zealand water! The hotel is really nice too, with big modern rooms. Definitely nice to have some space after ...

... waiters, market venders, signage, everyone. All three of us took French in high school, many, many long years ago. Between us, we were able to figure out most of what we needed to get around and read the menus. The French makes sense if you look at Geneva's location on a map, it's in a corner of Switzerland that's nearly surrounded by France.

... local speciality - a creamy potato dish with bacon and mushrooms - which was delicious. We generally narrow down the choices for the kids and then let them choose. To their credit, they are getting pretty adventurous on trying new tastes (sometimes). In the end it, for us, it was simply a night on the road. Comfortable bed - I shared with Flynn in the double and Bronte and Jo had a single each in the other room - and a strong hot shower. All ...
