The Amazing Guided Experience, Barcelona

... of the MNAC one of the most ridiculous art galleries ever…I thought it surely must’ve been a palace or something but apparently it was just the exhibition building for a world exposition in the 20’s! The pictures don’t do it justice. Headed down to another amazing fountain, right in the middle of a roundabout, if I was driving I think I would’ve just done laps around the thing. More points right here for Barcelona. Even more awesome ...

Gothic quarter and Magic Fountain of Montjuïc

A travel blog entry by elpinoine

... We were lazy and used the latter. After a brief, but rather nice ,view over the city, we went back down, and found a place to eat dinner: a nice bit of paella, much better than the paella we had at the Pobla Espanyol. As the dark had settled we walked back towards the palace to see the light and music show of the Magic Fountain. A lot of people had gathered for that very purpose. We were there about 10 min before the show started and it was almost impossible to get a ...

... someones reservation since they didn't show up on time. I ate some yummy fish and chips and watch España dominate Italia! After the game we headed for the Las Ramblas which wasn't far and on the way home. There were mobs of people just chanting "Viva España!" "Ole Ole Ole Ole!" and many more chants. People were jumping up on lights, tables. It was crazyness but awesome to see.

... Las Ramblas, Plaça Espanya, Torre Agbar, and a bunch of other places in between. I got lost like 10 times trying to follow my map. (If you know your Barcelona geography, you'll realise that many of these places are very far apart. I walked to most of them.)

But I didn't feel anything, and it wasn't the fault of the city at all. In fact, I just got more and more depressed as the day went on. This wasn't a feeling I ever had in South ...

Spending the Night in Barcelona Airport

... and an older man was squatting in the back of it. There were 4 assorted dogs running along. The scene seemed to be set 100s of years back. I imagined they were going out hunting wild boar(d)s but the dogs didn't look like pig dogs. I wrote boar(d)s because we had just seen an interpretive sign that wrote "boards" meaning "boars." I think that is what they meant.

The drive from Zahara was unremarkable except that it was difficult to find the airport, ...

Historical Traveler Reviews Hotel Acta Splendid Barcelona

    Good for the money..

    from kdnystn

Stayed here for 3 nights over the new year, was happy with how clean and modern the rooms were and the staff were friendly. 10 minutes walk to Place Catalunya and there is a small 24h grocery store at the top of the street.

The main streets were safe at night but later on some of the side streets looked a bit seedy.

    Great Hotel for the Money

    from anonymous

For the value, this is a great hotel to stay. Stayed for 9 nights, staff members are extemely friendly and accomodating. From the cleaning staff, front desk, and breakfast bar staff, they were very kind. Room was clean, nice and modern furnishings. The bathroom was clean and beautiful, all in marble. I would say this is one of the top 3 star hotels I have stayed in. Barcelona, I think set hight standsards for their 3 star hotels in general. Location was great, on a quiet street and close to the universidad metro. I walked around the neighborhood late night and found it relatively safe when I went out alone (39 yr male). Of course, I recommend safety precautions for all travlers.

    Good value for the money

    from anonymous

Stayed for 4 nightes in August 2004. The hotel is very quite and clean. 10 minuets walk from la Rambla. We ordered via the web and got great return for the money.

p.s. the hotel has changed its name from "Best Western Hotel Splendid"

Now called the Apsis Hotel Splendid

    from anonymous

A group of 4 couples stayed in the Splendid to celebrate a couple of our 40th Birthdays. We found it to be very clean and the staff helpful. My wife and I had a Junior Suite which was excellent for us meeting together as a group. Bathrooms were particularly "splendid". Mini bar prices were reasonable. It took us about 10 minutes walk to the top of the Ramblas/Catalunya Square via main streets. I would not advise using side streets late at night but stick to main routes where we felt totally safe. There were some restaurants nearby, we ate in a Chinese which was very good. There is a 24 hr supermarket on same street as hotel (2 mins walk). All in all a great base at reasonable cost and I would recommend it to others.

    Good hotel

    from Blackcat5573

Stayed at this hotel just before Christmas 2003.

The hotel is very clean and comfortable and the staff very friendly and helpful. They arranged for tickets to see Barcelona FC including a car from door to stadium and back again.

I would recommend this hotel to anyone staying in Barcelona, It's only 5/10 minutes from Placa de Catalunya.

    Great location,helpful staff,and unusually quiet.Perfect!

    from anonymous

The hotel is only a few minutes walk from Playa de catalunya and la Rambla, but once inside our room it was very quiet. There was no view as such from the window but this was more than made up in the care and attention the stuff gave us.

Buffet style breakfast was reasonable, even for a vegetarian. We were amazed that every day our room was serviced(we really became quite lazy). Only one small complaint though, on rainy days and we had several there were not any English speaking tv channels (except CNN), and of course the ones you have to pay for!
