      Not so glamorous Bergamo

Leaving Milano, we started the day with Bergamo which is an ancient town about 40 km east of Milan we've been hearing a lot about. I have to admit that it wasn't as great as I thought it would be. Maybe it's just me setting my expectation too high.
The old town (citta alta) is up on the hill and we had to take ...

Abby and I left for Bergamo early on Saturday morning (4 am from our house exactly). We took a taxi to the airport. Once at the airport, we sat there for over an hour with nothing to do because apparently nothing in the Valencia airport is open that early. We hopped on a Ryanair flight and we were off. We arrived at the Milan Bergamo airport at around 8:30. We met a nice lady at the tourist desk who helped us ...

... so it was interesting trying to all talk!

The people here are very friendly and treat us more like old friends than just people staying here. It was very nice having dinner with them, we got to try some traditional Italian 'Polenta' which is like a porridge sort of stuff made out of grain. It was quite nice though I think they add cheese to it too. We also got to try some limonchella, which is like a very lemony flavoured liquor which they drink after ...

I noticed a few weeks ago that a whole lot of cakes started to appear in the supermarkets. Some small and some huge, well for a family anyway. The largest I saw was 1 kg but more about that in a minute.

Thinking they were about winter – it's getting colder here - I bought some to get into the local theme, but I didn’t buy them all at once you understand. And ate ...

      Florence to Fontelunga

Picked up our car in Florence and admittedly it was good to be going. Florence is a lovely city but so noisy. We were looking forward to the Tuscan countryside and some serenity. On our way though, a stop at The Mall was calling us. The Mall is the outlet for all the designer brands such a Gucci, Prada, Miu Miu, Saint Laurent, Alexander McQueen etc etc. I had my hopes on picking up some Valentino studded shoes but at 830 Euro, that is definately no bargain, more expensive ...
