Easter Weekend in Spoleto (April 3-5)

... clown performance at a local theatre. We ended up as part of a large audience of parents and kids, and fortunately most of the performance was mime and Commedia dell' Arte style physical comedy. It was an entertaining show and we each had our own favourite moments from the performance.

We retired home to make a late Easter supper. Even after a day's worth of chocolate, there was still room for an excellent meal -- including lemon cake for dessert!

... in terraced streets with many back alleys to discover. Like the other Umbrian hill-towns we have explored, the streets climb at a steep angle, making exploring the town a workout in itself (lucky for us -- we need to balance out the the pizza, wine and gelato!).

The chief draw of this town, of course, is its fame as the birthplace of St. Francis, medieval holy man and founder of the Franciscan order. Born in 1181 in ...

Francis forsook his wealthy family and taught by example, living a life without worldly goods and aiming to love all ...

We had intended to head to Assisi this morning. We woke up early only to find a new forecast -- overcast and rainy. So tomorrow to Assisi. That is the luxury of a two week stay; no schedule except the one we craft as we go.

So what to do today? Up early, and decent skies in Spoleto, we chose a hike. We took the moving escalator up the hillside to our starting point by the 13th Century Rocca (castle). We crossed the Ponte delle Torri (a bridge and aqueduct that spans ...

Went on a one day pilgrimage with my school to Assisi to learn about the life of St. Francis of Assisi. Another beautiful town. I got to see where St. Francis was buried as well as the cross he was praying to when he decided to become a saint. I was not able to take pictures ...
