    Zoo & a bit of history

    ... and got some fresh hot waffles, shaped like the Cathedral with melted chocolate on, and some delicious Stollen. It was a one hour drive to Vaals / Holland. A cute little town. We had dinner at Mo'ment, an interesting little resturant. Duck was the speciality. Matt had huge ribs and H a vegetarian lasagna. Hotel Kasteel Bloemendal Vaals was where we stayed and it was lovely. 18C restored manor house, and we were in the renovated wing.

    ... pics of the local homes as we were quite taken by the home sizes and architecture. Tidy, tidy and more tidy homes. Notably absent in the little villages so far has been the lack of corner-type grocery stores. Of course, the gas stations have taken on stocking some items as is the case back home.

    Tonight we will have a nice evening with the gang at a local gasthof and tomorrow we will head south along the Moselle River and ...

    We pick up the travel blog having said farewell to Patty and Bob in Amsterdam and following a nice walk in Rembrandt Park by the hotel on Monday morning, we were picked up by our dear Dutch friend of 42 years - Puck and Ben Roncken who served in Moose Jaw in the early 70's where Ben was an exchange instructor pilot. They took us to their home in Roermond where we spent a very enjoyable and relaxing day and a half.

    ... extensive and used to extend into Belgium and all together was over 200km in length. During WWII 15 people were able to escape Germany using the caves. Back to Gemund now to repack our bags as the weight limits on SAS are quite restrictive and we are going to have to make use of all 4x23kg checked baggage and all 4x8kg cabin baggage that we have between us.     ... willow trees, with stains of green moss on many of the headstones from the rain. Some of the headstones were far apart, while others were sat almost directly adjacent to their neighbours. Few headstones were also placed by themselves, standing alone far from the others, which I found to be quite upsetting, fearing maybe these soldiers had been separated from their comrades.
