Again it was snowing when we woke up but again it wasn't sticking although it was still on the trees at the Alpine Zoo which we went to in the morning. This was Tara’s choice as usual. Greg's favourite was the brown bear which was lying with its head on its paws on a log, probably contemplating whether it was time to hibernate. My favourite was the lynx which was high up in a tree. By the ...
Innsbruck, Austrian Alps, Austria kiama_on_tour... It was Emperor Maximilian I who added the "logia" over an oriel window and covered it with 2657 fine gilt copper tiles. It was when you went into the museum that you got more of an idea of what you were seeing on the outside. There was an English audio guide which gave lots of information (too much for the kids) on what was the late middle ages and also Maximilian and I found it quite interesting. For example, under the judicial system of that ...

The prices seem quite reasonable after Switzerland, but that might be because they are in Euros. I had a goulash which was quite nice but salty. Again German is the language used but most people speak English so we haven't had any problems. It was very cold as we walked home and Tara kept saying, I hope it snows tomorrow (it certainly felt cold enough).
Innsbruck, Austrian Alps, Austria kiama_on_tour... probably look even better in the daylight.

We went back to our very nice hotel. Normally we would not pick a place like this but when my parents took a room the guy at reception offered us a very good deal so we could stay in the same hotel. We told him we would think about it and went down the street to another hotel, and it was 20 euros cheaper but at least 40 euros dodgier. So we went back and I got my mom to ask if he would take another 10 euros of the price (I am ...
Innsbruck, Austrian Alps, Austria travelingdiva... purchases.

The museum was pretty cool and certainly a unique experience. The weather was really nice today too so once we completed the museum and the shopping, we went to the park behind the giant's head. Here they have a hedge maze shaped like the giant's hand which looked pretty cool but we didn't venture in. Instead we soaked up a little sun before moving on to the next destination.

He has 2 Panadol (Tylenol) in his pocket.

When we walk up we come to a spot where there are lounge chairs set out in the grass. We go and sit down. It feels so good to lie there in the sun. I’m thinking I could just spend a couple of hours here relaxing. But no, up and off we go. After going up for about 15 or 20 ...
Garmisch-Partenkirchen, Bavaria, Germany dancejill... started by going to the top of the
second highest mountain in germany. The weather for today was
questionable... when we were driving by the bottom of the mountain
that we were going to the top of, the top of the mountain was clear
so we hoped on the cable car and headed to the top. By the time we
got to the top of the mountian the clouds had moved in and we could
see our hands infront of our faces : ( it made for bad views but we
still had a good time. The top of ...
Garmisch-Partenkirchen, Bavaria, Germany hikingguy... too.
The rest of the tour took us to Linderhof castle and Neuschwanstein castle. What magical looking places they were. Neuschwanstein is the castle Walt Disney uses the sillohette of at the start of his movies. Anyway, after the trip it was back to Munich for a day or so and then on the plane home.
Oberammergau, Bavaria, Germany danandroz... hand and the passenger kind of smiled and chuckled as I think he was imagining what it was like to be in my place. When I arrived I watched the talks from the back of the auditorium, and spent sometime doing a little work when I was bored. The final talks were surprisingly interesting and I found a group that was working on a similar topic to my own and was able to catch a trapped dislocation in a grain structure in real time, or at least what they thought to ...
Garmisch-Partenkirchen, Germany kenbeyerleinAnother work conference for my parents brought us to Oberammergau for a week. We stayed in the cutest little wooden cottage - like the whole thing ceiling to floor and including flowering window boxes was made out of wood! Totally picturesque like you've read about in Brothers Grimm fairy tales. Aromatic town bakery. Absolutely enchanting.
