    Abbey on the Beach

Mont Saint Michel is an abbey in…the middle of nowhere, Normandy! When the tide is high, the water rises all around it, only keeping a thin road that leads down the middle (the place is filled with warnings about being aware of the tides). Once we arrived, we walked on the beach around the perimeter of the abbey. Then we went to the very top …

    Trying to find the house

... mean. I guess I was expecting a driveway and hoping also for a sign or something. We drove around La Macrais (the hamlet where the house is) about three times before we spotted the sign La Macrais and turned at that corner and then turned into the house that might be it. With full tummy's we hit the road for approximately another hour. We knew we were getting close as we could see Mont Saint Michel in the distance (what an awe inspiring view). We found our hotel "Auberge de la Baie" just off the road. Jerry checked in and pointed to a second floor where we would ...

Left Bayeux 9.30am and driving to La Monte St Michel. Some 80 miles. The Mont is a historic island that you can only access when the tides out. Weathers very hot. Driving is so enjoyable through the countryside. Miles and miles of absolute beautiful scenery. Farm yards and meadows, with lovely cottages and barns constantly please your eyes. Quant villages and clean towns all gleaming with pride as the locals love and care for them. It certainly shows. Why wouldn't you want to ...

... recommendations. As it turned out, Le Cantorbery welcomed everyone, from well-healed locals and tourists, to the shorts attired variety like ourselves. We had a pricey but very good poisson dinner. I had some kind of white fish in a delicious light creamy sauce with julienne vegetables, and Doug had something similar to a Haupuka steak in a balsamic sauce. We shared an amazing strawberry shortcake-type dessert which deserved a photo ...
