... the city centre to see some more of Brussels and figure out Bruges the following day. We saw more of the city, and went to a chocolate museum with testers (YUM!), and watching a demonstration. We browsed around the MASSIVE Sunday markets, and even found this cool secondhand market that was great fun and interesting to look through. We also were determined to find this "Manneken Pis" statue which is a statue of a little boy taking ...
Belgium, Belgium ilovetheworldToday we travel back to the states and I have to admit, I'm really going to miss Europe. We wake early to catch the train from Jurbise to Brussels airport where we will have just enough tim to make any adjustments in weight to our luggage. (They are really strict about checked bags being of a certain weight o/w it's $150 per overweight bag!) Poor Chris ...
Mons, Hainaut, Belgium katieandchrisSooo.... I was supposed to have left for France... But I didn't. Honestly, I think too much rest is a bad thing. And I think I have been resting too much. Therefore, I really didn't feel like moving on... So I ...
Mons, Hainaut, Belgium girlonabike... is all told through comic strips drawn by some of the nation's leading artists. The museum also has displays on the animation of comics, features on the golden ages' characters and creators, and a tracing of the art form's development into its modern day rendition. Yet no trip to Brussels is complete without a visit to its Grand Place, a fairytale cobblestone square of cafes, classic museums and an assortment of street ...
Brussels, Belgium nklenske... what there saying. Things that could be accomplished in 5 minutes usually take us the better part of the practice because the communication barrier is difficult. But what i can say is that we are 100 times better than the first day. Ive been forced to learn a lot of French, which i love and visa versa. The pitchers and catchers on this team are extremely talented, they just need to have someone give them the proper instruction ...
Mons, Belgium kulick001... with skimming everything because they do not eat enough to even have to worry about it. And eating out is a very rare occasion. At restaurants they dont have eight different types of sugar. Its just regular sugar and in a cube not a packet. Generally they cook their meals every night from scratch. Another difference which was big for me, they eat omelettes for lunch and dinner but never breakfast. Its not even available at a ...
Mons, Belgium kulick001... It's old hat. The mature way - that I think the continental Europeans have got their heads around - to behave is to treat each other with respect, regardless of sex. The same chivalry thing that we Brits are holding on to is rooted in rooted in the same kind of insecurity on the part of males, and their fear of change. It appears to go hand in hand with homophobia. We're supposed to accept ...
Brussels, Belgium jeremyhillDay of my scheduled return flight from Brux. I can't wait to get there and here I am writing about my return to chaos. Chaos, that's a cluster of destruction sites (as yet, nothing's been construed, so...) right in front of the building we're supposed to teach in. It gets so loud you lose patience with your feeble voice after a minute, and the noise reverberates in your eardrums. Fun.
Brussels, Belgium katieontherun... too messed to know how fast we were going, but i found out this morn it was about 160. oh my god, that was scary! but a fun night anyway. mike you'll be happy to know my nose was warm last night. and i kept getting people to touch it, and then i asked them if it was warm. this seemed to be a neveer ending source of entertainment for me. i wish you could hae been there to see it :) got up this morning still drunk, and we went to see anne frannk ...
Amsterdam, Belgium tally... told that when in Belgium we should try Belgium waffles, chocolate and fries...all were excellent! Brussels seemed like a great city except it probably isn't as well looked after as other places we'd been already. We had a fairly early night since we had to wake up VERY early the next morning to catch the train to Paris.
