Vandaag was het syltsöndag in Umeå. Sylt is Zweeds voor etalage en letterlijk vertaald is het dus etalagezondag. Officieel is dit de eerste dag dat de winkeliers hun kerstetalages laten zien. Christmas every day
South of Kokkola we visited a home where every day is Christmas. This lady has opened it for the summer and she has handmade "tonttuja" ( elves) who are traditionally Santa's helpers. Each one is unique and some are for sale (at a price). Each is unique and living part of the old traditional lifestyle that she is going to be presenting in story form in a book.

... breeding site for birds. There was a music festival but we decided to just spend our few hours looking around and due to the small size of the island we enjoyed the music in the background. A beautiful day - sunny and nicely warm, music and delicious soup!

Hanging out round Kokkola
Arriving back in Finland from Copenhagen on Friday we met Andrew in Helsinki and then took a 5 hour train trip to Kokkola on the west coast to begin our two weeks of visiting relatives many of whom live in Pohjanmaa. This is the area to the mid north and west on the coast opposite Sweden.
