... managed to park close to the city centre enabling us to walk through - different when there is no snow lying around. Looking for a coffee shop we found the covered market, actually full of busy city people taking lunch and a superb range to fish for sale. In fact this is the biggest covered market in Scandinavia, according to Pinterest - more research to check this ...

... where I was picked up by Mikko for the drive to Tampere.

Tampere is 150km north of Helsinki but it's not a particularly exciting drive. The motorway is empty by English standards and the route is largely through featureless forests. The wild lupine on the side of the road ad colour, with large drifts of blue and pink.

By Paul I'm now in a smaller city north of Helsinki, called Tampere. It's the home of 2 of Finlands oldest saunas. I've included a photo of 1 I went to, Rauhaniemi sauna. I found that before going into a Finnish sauna it is good to ask alot of questions, the first one being can I keep my trunks on. They said "yes". It was amazing. You go in the sauna, then get out, walk outside, walk along a rock down ...

... and the shpangliness on exhibit in the museum was much. I will let the photos do the talking in this respect.

Sadly, I didn't manage to make off with a geode the size of my face, but it was a pleasant way to spend some time.

I'm off to Turku in a bit, where I will be couchsurfing for the first time on this trip. It's going to be a different experience to hostelling I think, and I am interested to see how it goes. Wish me luck!
