Monkeys for breakfast and beach for lunch

... Anyway, it was a plane with a view.

Quepos isn´t much to speak of. Dirty little place with expensive restaurants and a 24 hour bar which the lcals fight in. On a bus at 5.30am we witnessed a hilarious local fight where the angry guy had a pathetic crumbly stick that he kept hitting his victim with. The police turned up but just ordered burgers and drove off. That´s justice.

... forrest and its beaches. We got accompanied by monkeys, slothes and iguanas, that w**e always at our side and, as we found out lat**, w**e the biggest tourist attraction. Whenev** you think about cute, little monkeys, forget about it NOW! While one of them took ev**ybodies attention on himself, posing and p**forming for us, the oth** one meanwhile stole the food of our friend and ran away with it!! Luckily we didnt brought any food with us ...

Arrival

... was one of the first ones on the carousel. And although the hour-long scenic drive on winding roads was just the sort that usually makes me carsick, I cheated fate on that count, too. We had warm, sunny weather from the time I arrived, through the time we waited outside for the other two volunteers sharing the van back (there are ten in all, but we arrived in shifts) until the time I got up to my room and started unpacking; then it started pouring. Still, if ...

Leaving the Nest

... be harder because of it. Oh well. Since I last wrote I have done the aforementioned things many times, but also a few adventures outside the norm. One day John/Jim, Peaches and I went for a (free) canopy tour. That was quite exciting--sliding along cables through the jungle 40-75 feet above the forest floor. Saw lots of Titi monkeys, and had an annoying guide que se llama "el mono." The next day we drove for an hour + past naranjito ...

Después de la capital un día de playa para cortar la jornada rumbo a Corcovado e desintoxicarse de todos los humos de la urbe. After the capital a day on the beach to divide the journey to Corcovado and get purified from the smoke of the urbe.

Mangrove

... ice cream. Today we went on the Mangrove boat tour and saw lots of Whiteface monkeys and added 15 more species to our list of birds sighted. I've put some pictures here but you can see more on our Picasa photo site at picasaweb.google.com/suespence. It's still about 25c here every day but not quite as humid except for last evening when it poured rain for about 2 hours. To cope with the heat we continue to spend most afternoons by the Cascadas pool. Tough life. Pura Vida.

things to know

... your palm in the bathroom. And sometimes flying beetles dive bomb your face. And watch the railings - they maybe covered in ants. Transportation The cabs here can be pretty cheap- if you tell them the amount you are going to pay first. Traffic comes first- watch your step because they aren't watching for you! The bus is very cheap but you all know how i feel about the bus. I do ...

... Dave had River Shrimp which are huge and taste a bit like lobster and I had a mixed plate of wonderful seafood. We found the restaurant quite by accident when the taxi driver dropped us where he thought we ought to go rather than where we had asked. Spookily, the following evening, we tried to return to the same area but ended up, this time on foot, in quite a different one where our original choice of restaurant suddenly loomed in front of us. Juicy steaks this ...

our last voyage through Costa Rica

... just barely as the rain started. The rain typically lasts for a couple hours back in San Pedro, but this was a tropical storm that lasted the entire night. Eventually the street was flooded to the point that there was no sidewalk. That night we all went out for some food and drinks to celebrate Kirsten's b-day, but the real fun of course was back at the hotel where we played some classic fun games of cards. The room was air contidioned, so ...
