Sailing through the many islands of Finland was quite amazing. On board a mega ten deck car ferry within metres of inhabited small islands, casting a shadow like a tall skyscraper is very sureal. The sun was warm and the skies were clear, what a nice welcome to Finland after having 12c and rain in Stockholme.
Thanks to double glazed windows, our concerns about the potential noise were allayed, and we both had a good sleep, and were ready to embark on the next leg of our journey.
As we still hadn't paid, we found the manager guy as we were ready to leave, but to our surprise, he said no – no payment…. we gathered that he was more than happy to take our camping gear as full payment, so we'd effectively sold it for €42. Not a bad ...
Today we got to spend a few hours in Helsinki, Finland. It was our first truly sunny day on this trip and it was beautiful. We took a ferry out to Suomenlinna Fortress. This is a six island fortress built in the1700s to protect the region from the Russians. We walked through the grounds of the two main islands. There were a lot of great views on the fortress itself and of Helsinki.

Our days in Sweden (and Europe) were winding down, but that didn't mean we weren't up for one more trip, even if it was a small one.
