The Fat Lady is starting to sing and remind us that it's all over for another trip.
We went in to the town centre and had a wander round and lunch at Dudok (a version of Weatherspoons) Noticeably absent from most riders of scooters and pushbikes were any sort of helmet which was very surprising.
Liz watched the Holland v Mexico match with a bunch of very rowdy Dutch fans (are they all like that worldwide?) ...
... after lunch. He was an elderly man who was 15 at the time when the Allies and Germans were battling for a bridge here in Arnhem. Apparently a movie was made in 1977 about this failed operation ("A Bridge Too Far"). We watched it later when we were in our cabin. After the lecture, Tauck brought in a string trio called La Stada who performed classical and non-classical pieces. After that we went out for a walk in Arnhem and had dinner by ourselves on the ship.
... a week's stay, we are staying here until the wedding on the weekend which is at a hotel in the country side. Dudok apartments Arnhem are brilliant right in town centre, bit of a pain that they are in the pedestrian street to get your bags to in the middle of the night but we made it. We had a quick catch up when we got in but straight to bed. On the Sunday we ventured out to have a look around for some breakfast and catch up with the rest of Emma's family ...
... the sat nav lady was conspiring against me when she tried to take me down a bus lane, but I thought I would just approach from another direction. So off I went again and went round the loop again but tried the other direction, next thing I know if that I'm going around a loop which is taking me up a cycle lane. So I go away from the cycle lane to end up in a bus lane sandwiched between hundreds of buses. Doing a U turn in the round nearly wiping ...
... before succumbing to popular opinion and turning around- that first day, after 12 hours of cycling on a brand new Moroccan one speed bike, dubbed "The Marauder", the distance to London was nary a kilometer less than it had been upon setting out. Here's hoping my westerly detour proves less time consuming- at least it shouldn't result in such a sore ass! ...
