... queues at the Auguille du Midi. Phillip decided he didn't want to view the great heights of the mountain so I went alone, although I wasn't really alone because each gondola holds about 60 people. So up we went from about 1,000 metres at Chamonix to 3,842m. I know from my experiences in Peru last year that I'm not great at altitude so I wasn't surprised to feel really woozy and short of breath up there but it was really worth it. The views ...

Xonrupt-Longemer to Friedrichshafen 170 miles France empty, Germany full. That was a hard, tense drive. But first, apologies to Guy in France. Yes indeed, that was Vosges. But that's still a good 200 miles from you and we had to turn left into Germany. At least we thought that was a good idea at the time... Being us, it's all a bit ad-hoc/make it up as you go along. Hence we only spent a couple of hours looking around before ...

... that shuttles backwards and forwards from Lindau to Friedrichshafen. Lindau is on the border of Austria and Germany. There'd been a few stretches along the side of Lake Constance. Arrived just after 7 pm and found the hotel easy enough. Had to ring up and get a code to open the door though. It wouldn't work for Bryan, so the guy had to get on his bike and come around - it worked fine for him.

First thing we tried was the internet. ...

... tour at your own pace, and it felt authentic. The Neues Schloss was remade into an art museum, so we just looked at the exterior and moved on.

We were getting a little hungry by now but we decided to push on to our last stop, Konstanz. This turned out to be longer of a drive than we thought. As we didn't want to wait for the ferry, we circled all the way around the northern part of the lake, and eventually made it into the town. ...
