Matt and I headed off to the Koelner Zoo on the metro. It was lovely: very green, glass exclosures. There was a big family of elephants (about 16), 3 hippos who were having fun in the water and making loud noises and showing off their large teeth. Matt loved the orangatangs (the babies were playing) and the cheetahs (who were prowling up and down). A flock of flaming pink flamingo's and long legged ducks.

... twice, but it was impressive none the less. Much was underground by gas light. Thee caves were actually quarry caves where the limestone was removed by farmers and used in local buildings and also the Church domes. This tour was also by gas light and our guide left us in the darkness for a few moments just to experience true darkness. Although we only walked for 1 hour in the cave system it's ...

From Amsterdam to Maastricht by Train

We checked out of the apartment and took our final tram ride to Amsterdam Centraal Station for the journey to Maastricht. We knew that our fare cards didn't have quite enough money for the tram but figured we could sort it out with the conductor. She checked our cards and we were each out about 50 cents. She couldn't top up the cards and since our only official option would have had us buy a single use card good for an hour at a cost of ...
