Finally left Pont De Vaux, heading for the Sielle River about 1 hour north. Navigated our first lock together; a little scary as there is quite a large amount of water to exit the lock and it tends to swish the boat around, but we managed. Fortunately for us we had the very experienced Sheila and Alan in their boat there to help and advise us.

The chateau has it's own 2 bats, one in the lobby area and the other, which only opens after 9pm, down in the rape dungeon of the building. ... quite violently. But we survived and pottered down the rest of the canal at a stately 4 mph.
Invited to Alan and Shiela's boat for drinks and nibbles which turned into getting quite sloshed. An enjoyable way to end the day.
We are taking it easy over the next couple of days and then heading on our first foray down the canals, up the Saone, and onto the Sellie River heading to Louhans. Quite the little adventurers.

So I hit the road solo this afternoon, making my way over the next 2 days to Venice. It feels strange being without the wife and saying goodbye was a teary affair for both of us although, we are only apart for 2 weeks. I arrived in Bourg-en Bresse without any problems. I actually wished I was more aggressive in my driving plan because I'm sure I could have made it to Geneva quite easily.
