We were going to head to Lisbon but decided to stop in Nazare first. Nazare is a pretty ocean town that is very busy in the summer with tourists and beach goers. We arrived to a slightly overcast day and an empty beach. We stopped at a small restaurant for lunch and got some yummy soup (again) and seafood before making ...
Nazare, Estremadura, Portugal ktchrisWe woke up early (10am) and drove up the hill to the Castle of The Knights Templar. It was constructed by them in the 12th century and was their headquarters for 2 centuries before they were dissolved and it became headquarters of the Order of Christ. It is on the very top of the hill in Tomar and is visible throughout the town.
The building itself is huge and seems to go on forever. There are rooms and chapels everywhere and although most are very bare and ...

Before we left the restaurant, several Sicilians tourists wanna take pictures with us. They didn't speak any English... and I was trying to ask "di dove sei".... well they didn't reply either. Anyway, after some confusion we found that they were from Sicily and we took pictures together. One old man said "Buon Viaggio" to us. Before I left, I said "Ciao Ciao, Buon Viaggio!"
In the morning we went to Obidos, an old castle/city. There was a medieval festival the day before (just ended the day before or we would have seen people dressed in Medieval clothings!). Because of the end of the festival, we couldn't really go anywhere. So we ended up just climbing up a wall, took ...

... we had a beach to get to. And what a beach it was. The Praia del Rey hotel is situated on a beautiful stretch of coast lined with cliffs on the edge of incredible beaches that were almost always empty. Each time we went out to sand we were almost alone for a mile in each direction. In the five nights and days we spent along the Obidos area coast we sat by the pool and the osean, read books, napped, drank beer and wine and took the occasional evening trip to one of the local villages for ...
Obidos, Estremadura, Portugal croxandlilt... to it with so many delicious distractions around the festival. We could have been anywhere in the party at anytime and had a fantastic time. We spent time in nearly all of the areas. There was a permaculture garden, a liminal village, visionary art space, paradigms film festival, sacred fire stage and fire ring, groovy beach dance floor, ambient forest floor, main dance floor, market, restaurants, performing arts area, healing area, downtown shop, communal kitchen, baby ...
Idanha-a-Nova, Portugal inoursuitcase... went in and had a few beers. As it was around lunch time we had some lunch as well and finished of with a shot of local banana wine. There was a German girl at the table alongside us and she thought we were American. Her name was Dagmar and she drew us a map of the island. We were wondering how far it was around the island and if we had time to cycle around it. We had several more beers and were in no condition to go ...
