Freiburg to Nurnberg

Left Freiburg around 10:30am for our drive to Nurnberg (Nuremberg). We were travelling on the German autobahns now, so the end of speed limit signs meant just that. We were quite happy travelling at around 140km/h (!) but occasionally wound up our little A180 to 160km/h. Even at that speed, you would see a car's headlights approaching rapidly behind and be overtaken at high(er) speed by a Porsche, BMW or Audi (especially one of the four wheel drives). There was a lot of traffic on the road, e...

... meet up, we headed for the high-speed ICE train of the Deutsche Bahn that would get us to Frankfurt in no time at all.

Pam and Glenn Said:

We both enjoyed this medieval town dating back to 1071. We walked the old town within the walls and saw vistas of the town from the old castle. We enjoyed great espresso, one of Chad’s favorites at a little café. We now get to ride the DB train to Frankfurt.

Ahh… another week complete… another weekend to begin…

This week has been one of the hardest since I got here. It is about mid semester and it seems like tensions are running high with everyone. I guess that the large amount of traveling that I'm doing is taking a toll on my body, and my mind too. There is just so much to be done, and only spending 50% of my time at home (in Regensburg) doesn’t quite give me enough time for it. It has also hit me that I don ...

Another Medieval Town

... The New Palace contained a huge rose garden and had a great view of the city. During our free time Jack, Suzanne and I wandered around town admiring the architecture. We stopped at a snack shop where I had a large soft pretzel and Coke for only 1.69 euros. Cheapest purchase I’ve made yet. Usually a Coke costs at least 2 euros ($3).
We were back on ship for a late lunch and passed time watching the countryside slide by and going through locks.

A Quiet Sunday

Today, right after breakfast, we crossed the European Continental Divide. We went into a lock that dropped us down 81 ft. At the bottom it was, as our tour guide said, like being a spider in a bathtub with concrete walls rising up just inches from the sides of the ship.
We docked at ...

... was switched to a different platform. I asked how people were supposed to know that and he drew us a picture on a scrap of paper. He said up in the corner of the information board on the platform, there is a information bar and thats where it said it. But this is only in German, yet English is printed everywhere else! Ahhh!!! So we had to spend 2 hours of a gorgeous afternoon standing on a train platform. Luckily, the next train came ...

... not taken the trash out since then but one of our neighbors paid us a visit yesterday (a nice older man that lives 2 floors up and lets us use his wireless connection for free!!!). He came to explain to us how the trash is supposed to be separated because according to him, he had to "fix" our error last time and had to tear down the box and most importantly, others in the complex asked him to tell us, the new foreigners in the building, how to handle ...

What are we taking ?

... 300 €, but here we got a good deal for 150 € for a Carinthia sleeping bag with duck down and a comfort maximum of -4 degrees. Claudia bought an even warmer model, but since we could zip them together, there was no chance of freezing to death. Only 1,3 kg a piece, so not too heavy. I already had a tent for 3 persons, so that was ideal for both of us and our backpacs. And finally I got a self-inflating sleeping mat.
