... and the full moon seemed to transform the island werewolf-style into something of a nightmare. It soon became bitterly cold so we had to purchase giant knitted hoodies and drink warm punch spiked with liquor just to stay warm. It should have been a realy eerie experience as bats flitted around above us, while the faint sound of traditional music merged with the sinister squeaking of the children's swings to form a creepy cacophony. However this was soon drowned out by the ...
Patzcuaro, Central Mexico and Gulf Coast, Mexico duncantucker... local drink the Mexicans had brought in huge barrels, while others danced on the roof of the bus and partied in the street. We must have stayed there for a good hour and half before leaving and its fair to say it was a very messy end to the night.

The next morning the bus took us to a picturesque lake in the mountains, surrounded by pine forests. Although we could not swim in the lake there was a swimming pool filled with hot springwater coming straight from the mountains. It ...

I wanted to get up there and correct them, but I behaved myself!

Yesterday afternoon I went to a music workshop for children and adults. They taught guitar, violin and wooden flute in groups and then put them together at the end of the workshop. This takes place twice a week, so I´ll go again next week. I´ve borrowed a ...

The cells where the monks lived had windows which catch the afternoon sun. The windows each had a built-in bench on the left side so they could use the natural light when they were working. Too bad for the left-handed monks! Also visited the church and town square.

Tupátaro - small adobe church with Romanesque arches ...
Patzcuaro, Central Mexico and Gulf Coast, Mexico sehablaespanolIt´s Wednesday of my second week already - the time is flying! We are marching on through the maze of Spanish verbs in the first two hours of classes each day, and I was very glad that today that we tackled pluperfecto (have done, had done, will have done, will have wanted to have done if I hadn´t already done...okay I made that one up!) which I´m finding almost comforting after days of trying to decide whether I want imperfecto or pretérito and when I do decide ...

John Baule is quite handy with the paint roller - he does actually get some on the walls and ceilings (see the picture). Sally, Carol, Patty, and Deborah Ann worked with the students handing out pencils and crayons. Scott worked on moving a swing set that had been where the new building was built. Russ and myself worked on wiring the building for electricity. Patty and Mal also did a lot of ...

I fer sher held one and took a picture of one in britney´s hand. After that we pretty much spent the rest of the time in Morelia. Oh I almost forgot! We were walking around the first day and we found the museum of the city of Morelia and there was an exhibit of brutality and torture. We were the only people in there for a while, except for two kids ...
Morelia, Central Mexico and Gulf Coast, Mexico drenleigh... most determined bicycle thief', the salesman had said. I tracked down the locksmith in an arcade opposite the imposing former Convent of San Francisco. His confident tone put my mind at ease. I left him with the lock and went off to explore the city. Valladolid - as it was originally named - was founded by sixteenth century colonialist. The settlers had been loath to set up in the nearby 'Indian capital' of Patzcuaro and sited their rival city some fifty kilometres to the west ...
Morelia, Mexico fintan... The trail is gradual but the elevation makes slow going unless you are really fit, but the hike was worth it. Vale la pena which is worth the pain. We were fortunate that the sun was out that day so we saw the full process, the clustering, sleeping butteflies and then the swarming. As we hiked down we were surrounded by hundreds of thousands of butterflies, truly amazing. I won't go into all the details about this migration but it is truly amazing to see them in ...
