It wasn't really cold up the mountain, about 3 C and the sun was out, to wear snow gear one could have been over dressed!. There hasn't been a fall of snow in the past week so the snow wasn't fresh and quite icy and there were a few incidents of slipping over.

Kind of important!! But luckily the lady was able to tell us about some other ski resorts nearby that had already opened so crisis averted ...

... responsible for those cows with bells around their necks??). Zermatt; flower boxes everywhere here too, but on expensive looking ski chalets/hotels. Anyway, we went up on the cog train to the higher Gornergrat with it's thinner air and magnificent views of the snow mountains and glaciers. Hopefully, the summit of the nearby most famous Swiss mountain, the Matterhorn would be visible to us!! Unfortunately the gods were against us ...

No notes, just that Refugio Berthone was at the top of a huge climb out of Courmayer. stopped for ice cream in town &a look around. Deb had convinced us we were staying in a hotel in town, so much disappointment . Earlier in the day we'd lunched in a ski village above Courmayer. Left Elizabetha lodge & walked along the Lac de Combal. Then straight up ...
