Richard was to leave us today, he had a five hour train journey to his next destination in Finland and I can't recall where that was. In our fly- spattered car but boasting a pristine windscreen, Richard bade his farewells to Rosemary & Elaine and Julie and I took him to the station, arriving in plenty of time for him to purchase a ticket for his train. We were sad to see him go, he was a wonderful companion and considering just how close the ...

... confess to getting exasperated with Richard for not understanding the simplest of instructions yesterday when we were moving the boat a little to gain access to a hosepipe – I kept on saying ‘put the loop of rope in your left hand over that black bollard behind you’ and he kept on doing it wrongly. Another wet day but there was not too much for us to do as we were awaiting the arrival of Rosemary and Elaine, due in at around 20:45. After catching up on emails etc in the café we popped up to the supermarket in the pouring rain. There was an Alko next door ( Finland's equivalent to Sweden’s Systembolaget) where Richard wanted to acquire a bottle of Finnish vodka, which later that evening proved to be very smooth indeed.

    After lunch ...

... guests. This we did successfully, finding a helpful club member who promised to pass on our plans and 15 minutes later, we were tied up in the town’s harbour- convenient but not secure enough for long term berthing.

When you’ve seen to the boat in a new harbour, the next thing to do is find where the electricity, toilets & showers are and who to pay. The electricity was easy, there was a supply point just by the boat, but it was locked. The rest prove d ...
